I went for Fast Telco 256kbps connection. I need to find out about their refund policy because it is not as fast as I would like and they have VOIP blocked. I should have went with Quality net I guess. All the ISPs around here seem to have problems though
I will try it on the FT(512) and Zajil(1mb) connections when I get home.
William:
I am using FastTelco at home; they actually offer more bandwidth than advertised. From my experience, I have been able to get 30-50% more bandwidth than what i paid for.
As for VoIP; I am currently running two vonage-linksys boxes (pap2) at home. They both work perfectly and the line quality is quite good.
I think you should look into another modem and setting up port forwarding for VoIP.
William: Qnet seems to have the least of problems!
K: It seems that things are working well on your end! I will do more testing in different areas. Let me know when you do the other tests at home and nobody is downloading something!
K: I thought Zaijel only offered for corporate accounts. Interesting, your getting 870 kbps while Im getting 693 kbps with 1.5mb connection. I need to see whats going on! I wish we could get fiberoptic straight to the house! I think the one time install would be worth it!
I have fiber optic in my office .. the speed is the same but the latency is amazing (1ms – 100ms). Don’t count on it being much difference in speed; thats all up to the isps (we could go up to 8mb on dsl).
And Zajil is offering residential DSL (same price as Qnet).
K: Ok.. now that makes sense. Zajil, you know what I thought of doing at one point is getting two connections and getting a load balancer and see if it can do wonders and stuff!
K: hahahaha! Now thats the truth! I have an old school Linksys that has been working for me, but they are just selling the same one I had before but with a few updates. I have the SRX 400, but the reviews say its good for long range and bad for short range.

That speed seems a bit slow for Qnet.

I just got Zajil installed at home …
Zajil (1mb):
Download Speed: 870 kbps
(108.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 724 kbps
(90.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
The ridiculous speed is one of my servers in a university; Its for ‘testing’ purposes.

Doing that now .. its not as good as i hoped it would be. Then again, my dual WAN router is a bit ghetto.
