Solo Riding

This Friday I had only had one bike to ride which is the lovely Ducati 1098s, the Diavel took its own little adventure in preparation for another Epic trip. Getting on the bike is a must every week, and I love taking advantage of the empty roads. This was one of the rare times that I was riding solo, I was used to it in the early years of riding in Kuwait but I got used to riding with a few people every weekend but this time around their machines were not available for the outing.

I took the sea side right after getting a quick drink at Starbucks like usual, and it was a bit humid but just as long as you are riding the weather isn’t too bad. Its still a mix of cool and hot, and the humidity doesn’t help. When it gets cooler I know there are going to be a lot more bikers on the road. The funny part is seeing the people out driving with their top down enjoying their convertibles and I can’t blame them, its just too nice to stay indoors.

Since this was the first time in a while that I ride solo, I was riding a bit more aggressively then usual, I just wanted to push myself a bit and try a few things out during the ride and I have really missed riding the 1098s, when its summer you can’t really ride that bike, it just gets too hot in the wrong places. But I remembered why I loved riding it, it sends chills down my spine when flying around the corners, a rush like no other.

Fun Ride About Town

Taking advantage of the final days of riding in Kuwait, I keep hearing people hitting the beach or going sailing while I’m still riding. I honestly never get tired of riding, its just such a rush and I want to ride as much as possible. This ride was very intense, we had a group of dedicated riders, arriving on time sticking to the route. I almost made no stops throughout the ride and kept everyone on their toes.

We try to find the best curves we can around town and there are some nice roads in Kuwait, but still we need some more curvy and banked roads around Kuwait. The more I ride the Ducati Diavel the more I love the machine, I don’t even know if that is possible, it seriously a fantastic machine. I go into corner just as fast as these superbikes and I love it, if they did this with the Diavel, I don’t know what to expect from the 1199. The first bunch of Ducati Panigales 1199 have been paid for, the next bunch arrives the end of the year, I can’t wait to see one. Seriously not enough time to ride in Kuwait. One of the things I enjoy is when I hear the exhaust of the MV Agusta 312 R passing me, it is music to my ears, Italians know how to build their machines. Ending our great ride at Q Cafe in the Village, amazing place to get a tasty bite to eat before going home.

The Heat Is Coming

This is probably one of the more interesting rides we have had this season, we started off as five ended up being 11 machines on this little outing. We are trying to ride as much as possible these days because its getting hotter and hotter. That morning I felt pretty crappy because of a Flu that was on its way, I pretty much ignored the feeling, took Dayquil, drank some fizzy Vitamin C and headed out. I know it wasn’t the smartest decision, but I have one Friday and I have to ride at any chance that I get.

As soon as I was on the bike the fresh air cleared my lungs, I honestly felt more attentive to the details around me, more alive with the rush of air and the sound of my exhaust. We went around town as much as possible with a stop in Doha which you can see from the video below, and this doesn’t always happen but we had a request for the BMW S1000RR and MV Agusta Brutale to go head to head, and they are both lovely and amazing machines.

We also ended up going to Wataniya Airport just off Sabhan highway and it was faling apart, the roof was coming off, nobody was using it or maintaining it. The one time I think the government should have stepped in is to bring that company back. They left Kuwait Airways to fall apart over the years and the one time we had something to be proud of it launched during a difficult financial time. We kept on riding until it hit about 31 Degrees while we were outside, as long as we were moving it was cool, but you can feel that summer is here, and its going to get hotter.

The Days Are Still Cool

These days its getting a bit warmer but still there is a lot of riding left, I’m trying to get in as much as I can at this point. This past weekend we rode about 350 Km around town, from Bida’a to Doha to Subhan and back to Bida’a for something to drink. It was an intense ride since we wanted to ride as much as possible during that amazingly cool morning, and the dust lifted from the night before.

This time around we were a bit more organized with the riding since we had plan, and a few different routes which made things interesting. The 1st ring road has turned into one amazing corner, at least the new part is, its the perfect curve, I hope they don’t install a camera there any time soon. Recently I have modified both the Diavel and 1098 so that my license plate is somewhat hidden.

After a nice long ride we had a nice cool drink, we thirsty as hell and I didn’t let anyone stop for a drink the whole day since I wanted to enjoy the ride as much as we could. There are a few surprises in the pictures below since we had a lovely machine join us in the previous ride I had to put the pictures up.

Riding With The Hooligans

This was probably one of the longer rides we have had in a while and the weather was just perfect, a lot of riders came out and this was probably the largest group of riders we have had together in a while, with an interesting mix of riders and machines.

We were out riding from 7 am and didn’t stop until 3:30 pm all over Kuwait in different routes, its been a while since I had to fill up twice in one ride but it was fun and we did have our shenanigans on our little adventure.

I honestly can’t get enough of the Diavel, it is such a fun machine to ride and amazing around the corners. No Sport Cruiser can compare to it, its on par with most sport bikes and you just can’t wipe that grin off your face when you are pushing it as much as you can. These days its getting a bit warm so I’m trying to ride as much as I can before the hot season comes in, sometimes I wish I could take my Diavel with me on the plane to Europe and ride around for a while from town to town.

4 Italians Out On The Town

8 am Meet up and heading out right away, we wanted to make the best out of the time we had without any delays. But then we faced one major delay we weren’t expecting, our friend got caugt in a speed trap on 5th ring road at 7:48 am. That was the last thign I expected that early in the morning, we took some time but things worked out and the guy managed to get out of it without getting his bike towed which is a miracle. So we started off an hour later and took the roads as usual, and more people came out this weekend then the week before, seems a lot of people were back in town.

We were riding hard and enjoying every corner, there were four of us, all Ducatis surprisingly, until about halfway through the GulfRoad an old friend joined us with a BMW 1000RR and he rode it like a mad man. Then I noticed his bike, no light, number in the front, no plates, and running on slicks. He was riding a full on race bike and we was making us look like old ladies. When we stopped and I talked to him it seems he has been racing professionaly on his own in the SBK Championsihp (Superbike) and now he is ranked 12th in the Gulf. He has been taking his bike from Bahrain to Qatar and to other locations to practice and race on the back of his Chevy pick up truck. Now that takes a lot of dedication, and the last time I rode with the guy was about 2 years ago and he is insanely better then what he used to be.

It was a hell of ride and we took another which had a lot of fun turns heading to Doha which was entertaining and still I want to find new roads.

The Machines:

  • Ducati Mosnter S4RS
  • Ducati 1098
  • Ducati 1098S
  • Ducati Diavel Carbon Red
  • BMW 1000RR – The One Stragler Coming Along For A Bit

Last Ride of 2011

4 Italians & 1 Road!

The last Friday of 2011 and we really wanted to go riding, meeting up at 8 am in Starbucks Arjan in Bede’a. Surprisingly there were a lot of people still in town and I was really looking forward to the ride. The best part about the people I was with is that they knew how to ride hard and fast in a group, they knew the rules of staying together, and they knew how to handle themselves. We were supposed to take it easy, but that didn’t really work out, we were flying like demons from the start and there was Nobody on the roads. Everybody was out of town or at home sleep so we took full advantage of it.

We went to Doha as usual because its a fun route and there are some nice long straights and a few bendy curves on the way. Then we took the 7th ring road to the Airport road to Subhan and kept on going. It was a blast, I loved hearing the exhaust of all the different machines, and we were pushing the limits of our bikes through every turn and loved it.

The Bikes We Were Riding:

  • Ducati Diavel Carbon Red – I Was Riding Like a Madman!
  • MV Agust 312R – Demon On The Road
  • Ducati 1098 TriColore – Pure Speed
  • Ducati Monster S4RS – That was a very loud machine!

Ducati – Vendetta

The Ducati 1098/1198 has turned into somewhat of an icon, a turning point for Ducati, and they have carried with success after success. One thing Ducati has managed that others haven’t is to cross different segments of riding without alienating their fan base and a majority of people are still insanely hardcore about Ducati. Now this is where the Vendetta comes in a little differently, Radicall Ducati & Dragon TT teamed up to create a new face to the 848/1098/1198. Taking the route that Ducati wouldn’t, a path down the darkside for an edgier, meaner looking machine. This is a body kit for the 848/1098/1198 with the same fittings, so something so menacing designed with simplicity in mind.

This might not be for everyone’s taste but thats probably why it is made by a speciality company. I’m tempted to get another Ducati 1098 and fit it with this kit, it is already a fine piece of machinery but its intimidating with this look.

The full Vendetta kit includes the following:

  • Aluminum front bracket
  • Front fairing with 2 high beam and 2 low beam ellipsoidal lights , windshield
  • Left and right sidepanels with incorporated blinkers.
  • Race type bellypan
  • Fuel tank
  • Solo seat with leds rear light incorporated
  • Solo seat under-tray
  • Air funnels
  • Two silencers adaptors

Free Riding – Crack of Dawn

I was so excited to ride this weekend that I woke up at the crack of dawn, I knew it was going to be cool but at 5 am it was 19C outside which was perfect. I update the playlists on my nano, got my camera with me, and got into gear. We met up at 7am on Friday at Starbucks Bida’a, and there were at least a dozen bikers already there. It seems everyone was ready to ride this season and well worth it in the lovely morning. The weather in Kuwait has been fantastic and I hope it stays that way for a while, I am one person that does not miss those dusty days.

As usual there were a bunch of Harleys in the morning and a couple of Ducatis, but it was just me and my friend riding this lovely morning. We said hello to a lot of people, had a cold drink then headed out. They have repaved certain parts of the GulfRoad with what seems to be cheap work so the roads are shiny but slippery, there were few parts where I felt the back end of my bike shake even when I was going relatively slow. I haven’t been on the roads for a while so I thought I would take it easy the first time around to make sure I know where the bad spots are before pushing the bike. We stopped at Sharq Mall to switch bikes, I was riding the Ducati 1098s and my friend was riding the MV Agusta 312R, the 312R is probably one of the most extreme machines out of MV Agusta, Italians really do know how to make their machines look good.

As soon as we switched bikes and got some pictures, we got back on the road only to find a pack of Ducatis that we knew so we dedcided to tag along with them since we didn’t mind modifying our plan. A few hand signals and we were off in a pack of six, and I was riding on a machine that I have never ridden on before, so there was a slight learning curve in the matter. These guys had their gloves off, they were maniacs, the throttle was tied to their adrenaline and they were flying like rockets, and we were keeping up and we know that we could even pass them but we usually go at a more comfortable pace. But we thought we do something different, we went all the way to Doha and back, they were relentless, a couple of Ducati Classics, one BMW, and a Monster, but we were on the MV 312R and the 1098s, so we were flying our of corners, taking any opening. We were lucky the roads were empty and we took the seaside all the way back. By the time we were on Blajat Street I ran out of Gas so we had to fill up, luckily the new station there had Ultra Super gas.

We headed back to Starbucks Bida’a for a drink before riding again, and by the time we got there we saw even more bikes around 9:30 am. I saw the BMW S1000R and its a mean looking machine, even a Corvette group seemed to be out as well. We had some cold water before heading out again, then we met up with some friends at Prime & Toast. This time a friend joined up with us from the Ducati Club and this guy wanted to fly, I won’t lie I was tempted everytime to take off, its a hell of a rush. I think everyone just really loved the day and the cool weather. Some of those guys were riding since last night they couldn’t wait to get on the road. After breakfast I went home and needed a nap to be up the rest of the day. This was my first time riding an MV Agusta and the 312R is a in a class of its own, it has a lot of high end power, I would have preferred a little at the low end but its a big machine and you have to learn how to ride it, if you are over confident its not a forgiving machine but if you learn to ride it, its pure bliss.
