Driving The Italia 458

Recently I had the chance to get my hands on the Ferrari Italia 458, I wasn’t expecting to find it in the Exotic Racing line up in Las Vegas. As soon as I saw I had to get my hands on it, I booked it for as much as possible around the track. Last time I was there I drove the F430 Scuderia and I was impressed with that car, I didn’t know what to expect with the 458.

As soon as I got behind the wheel I saw that bright and lovely digital dial with so much information being presented and one big RPM. The instructor sitting to my right gave me the details of the car and told me what to do to get the most out of it. At first he had me driving in normal mode so the car won’t slip too much. A few laps around the track and he said I said driving it a bit too soft, I could push it on the corners, turn harder, it will hold. I tried going faster and faster, that car held really well, my blood got pumping around a few tight corners where I carried the speed really well. At one point the grin on my face was stuck and I was on a high, that car is amazing, the Italia was performs as good as it looks. It sounds so good as you throttle out of the corner and it hugs the corners so well, I had a few close mishaps but luckily the car did well even on the sportier setting. I still had traction control on and I loved driving it around the track, its a lovely experience for anyone. Italians know how to breed them.

Ferrari 458 vs. Ducati 1198s

Italian vs. Italian! This has been a long time coming, and I love it! I’m happy that someone has gone ahead and did it!

I love Ducati, bikes are amazing machines, but the Ferrari 458 is one mean machine, Ferrari have perfected the Exotic Super Car! But even on the track with the right rider and driver, the Ducati beat the most menacing machine from the Italian Stable! 1 minute 19 seconds on the 1198s compared to the 1 minute 22 seconds in the 458. The one huge difference here is that any person can get behind the wheel and pushing this exotic supercar, but to push the 1198s you need to skills of a master to push it to its limit and any mistake is a risky one. Beautiful machines.

Ferrari California – Anderson Germany

Ferrari has really changed up their line up over the past year, with the California and 458 being the sexiest of the bunch. Anderson is one of the premiere tuners out of Germany, always able to get a little bit more out of the car. With an ECU reflash and a tri-mode stainless steel exhaust system they managed to get an extra 55 horsepower out to beast up to 515 bhp.

The pipes are built with a special valve that can be adjusted depending on how much of a menace to society you feel like at that particular moment. The company also bolted on a set of 21-inch wheels up front and 22-inch rollers out back and installed a new suspension control module that can allow the car to be lowered up to 1.3 inches.

Ferrari 599 GTO – Faster Then An Enzo

There has been talk about this car, spy shots over the net, list of options and tid bits of information. Now its out the official 599 GTO from Ferrari, an Italian race pedigree. They have the 599 GTB Fiorano, then came the track only 599XX, now the barely street legal race car designated the Gran Turismo Omologato or 599 GTO and it brings a lot to the plate.

They managed to shave 195 Kilos from the car bring the curb weight to 1495 KG making leaner and meaner then its original. They bumped the engine output from 612 bhp to 661, a torque bump of 9lb-ft bring it to 457. The GTO modifications aren’t just mechanical, with a rework of the aerodynamics their is a new front splitter, side sills, diffuser, rear spoiler, vented hood as the ten spoke 20-inch rims with F1-derived wheel donuts. All this put together helps this machine sprint from 0 to 62 mph in 3.35 second and top speed of 208 mph. Beating the Enzo on the Fiorano test track by 1 minute and 24 seconds, thats scary. Only 599 of these machines will be made, they will be selling at around $460K, lets see who will be lucky enough to get one. Check out the new configurator by Ferrari.

Ferrari 458 isn’t Cheap


There have been a lot of speculation about the price of the Ferrari 458 and its going for $240’000. In Kuwait the starting price is 70’000 for this machine, meaning that it can go up to 80’000 KD or more based on previous pricing schemes of Ferrari in Kuwait.

So now based on pricing the Ferrari California is on a lower scale then the Ferrari 458. As the California starts at 58’000 KD and max’s out at 72’000 KD with all options loaded. But as a luxury car the California is much more luxurious, and that doesn’t include that the 458 will have a Scuderia version which will be even more expensive in pricing.

Ferrari Replacements

Ferrari have been working a on a few new machines, and a lot of people’s eyes are on the Italian Manufacturer. The Ferrari CEO has come out and said what people have been waiting to hear, some cars will be replaced soon and some will be kept. There is a new supercar in the work for Ferrari, some sort of F50/Enzo type machine but it will be power by a V12 or V8 Twin Turbo. Ferrari has been working on some greener concepts but those engines won’t be ready for production soon, but I’m curious as to how they want to maintain performance with those green machines. Now the 612 is another story, I have never been too much of a fan of that car and it seems a lot of people haven’t so Ferrari will be replacing it as soon as 2012 with the new car. Now for the 599 it seems they have other plans for it, they have introduced the HGTE kit to make it more aggressive and that doesn’t include the limited production 599xx, so this car isn’t looking at replacement until 2015. As for the 458 it seems everyone wants a piece of it, and I’m a huge fan of the California, I really think its the perfect combination of sport and luxury, and who doesn’t like a hard top convertible.

Italia 458

There has been lots of talk about the new Ferrari 458, if a picture is worth a 1000 words then I think a video can do a little better. Going to the track soon I know how some of those turns feels, but that machine is really looking good and at certain points its sending chills down my spine seeing how they are going around the corner and managing to drift that machine.

Ferrari 458 Italia

This has been a long time coming with all the rumors that have been flying around for the past 6 months, but I didn’t expect it to be this nice. Ferrari seems to be hitting the nail on the head with each new design and this one is no different except that it is an extremely fast machine. This time around things have changed, its sporting a seven speed dual clutch gear box mated to a 562 bhp 4.8 Liter V8 revving up to 9’000 rpm.

I really like what they have done the driver control area, feels like your in an F-22 Raptor not a normal car, at least Ferrari is accepting technology into their dash, and so many interesting controls. I really like the styling of the machine especially the rear of the 458, it looks very aggressive and the three pipe exhaust sounds great for a stock car, you can check out the video on the Autoblog website link below.
