Blackberry Back Up Glitches

My Blackberry Curve 8900 is reaching the end of its life, I have decided that I need to transfer to a new phone soon but first I have to back up the phone. First thing I did was plug it into my laptop with Desktop Manager install to back up all my contacts and details.

I plugged in the phone and left it to back up and left the computer for bit. I came back and it was stuck on “BB Groups” so I left it for another 30 minutes only to find it still stuck there. So I upgraded from Desktop Manager 5.0 to Desktop Manager 6.0 and tried it again and it got stuck again at “BB Groups”. I remembered a few times that I did a Back Up and Restore for a few people that their were issues restoring the BB Groups so I’m assuming that there still is some sort of issue.

The next step is to try to leave the BB Groups out of the back up which I will try with the advanced connection but I’m hoping that will solved the issue once I activate the other phone.

I think the only thing I have to do now is leave all the groups and then try the back up and restore again. I have about 10 groups in total so I just have to get reinvited to them once I’m done with the back up, I just hope that it is the issue and not something else, or then I’m not sure what to do.

Blackberry Curve 9300

Stumbling onto this video at Crackberry is a good sign, I have had my Blackberry Curve 8900 for 1 year and 7 months now, and this thing is falling apart. The trackball is still faithfull and the phone is operating but it can’t read the micro-SD card anymore and hangs every once in a while. I’m surprised it lasted this long after what I put it through, and I have been waiting for Curve update, and here you have it. It will be running the 5.0 OS and now the rumored 6.0 OS which is fine by me. This isn’t a revolutionary phone but an overhaul of the phone to current technology, and I’m happy that they have mostly worked out the kinks in the new OS, so I’m hoping that it will be a smooth operating OS without any issues. The strange part is the guy on the video calling the Curve 8900, the “8500” which is new to me, other then that it looks like a good upgrade to the current phone, I just hope they don’t take too long to release it.

BlackBerry Messenger Delays

BB9700

For the last couple of days I think BBM has been acting up, at first I thought it was my phone since it has started to do strange things and I think my Blackberry Curve is probably at the end of its life at this rate. I have been getting delayed msgs from the same conversation, somebody would get a msg I sent a few hours later asking what I was talking about. Or I would get something someone sent a few hours earlier, again later in the day which is really really strange. I can’t imagine what could be wrong but these delayed messages are really confusing the hell out of me, a few throw me off as they are out of context of the conversations that I might be having. I don’t know if others are experiencing this as much but I hope this gets resolved soon.

Blackberry Curve Trackball Annihilation

My luck with phones for the past few days have been a bit off but this is a bit of a simpler problem. My trackball stopped scrolling down, I didn’t think much of it, I would just cause a lot of friction and it would go back to normal and never thought much about it until today. It really didn’t want to go down, I could go up, left, right but not down so it was annoying. I decided to try to take it apart myself, when I started doing that, it turns out there are more parts connected then I knew so I put it back together. So the next step was to take a very thin flat screw driver to the area around the trackball and insert, but that get the results I expected, instead I destroyed all functionality left in the ball.

Called my phone guy, asked him to replace the trackball section asap, and he hasn’t failed me yet.

25 KD for an original trackball piece with the area around it, 5 hours later the whole thing is done and fixed, good as new. I just can’t seem to change to another Blackberry, if I’m comfortable with a phone I won’t be changing it anytime and soon and switching to the Bold 9700 isn’t on the map for me right now, the 8900 does everything I need perfectly.
