20 Most Beautiful Bookstores in the World

There is no question that I love bookstores and libraries, there is something about the smell of paper and what type of books you can discover in the store. Sometimes I spend hours in bookstores roaming about and picking up a few books and reading them for a bit, and walk around in all the different sections. Books can’t be replaced by E-Readers, and there is something that I love about books, a feeling of having a book, the smell of paper, and enjoying reading it, the difference between a hard copy and soft copy. From the smallest to the biggest, these are 20 of the most beautiful bookstores in the world.

The Forgotten Spot

Thanks to Poach for letting me know that you can take pics at Villa Moda in Shuweikh, I remember when I tried taking pictures there in 2007 and security would try chasing me off. This time around the place looked sad and deserted. From the heights of being an international phenomenon Villa Moda has dropped so low and so hard, its so saddening.

I stopped to take pics of the Diavel there, I remember taking pics of my Ducati 1098s in 2007 and the security tried stopping saying that pictures weren’t allowed and now its like they didn’t have a clue why I would visit. It is still a visually stunning building, it sad to see it deserted like this. I kept thinking there is so much that can be done with this building. I kept on going on my ride for that day, even though it was a short ride it was a lot of fun.

Then I was riding down the Gulf Road heading back home a thought popped into my head. Villa Moda is design in a way that would be perfect to setup galleries, I wish someone would buy the building and turn it into a great Art center and creative Boutiques. Unique types of Galleries and you can see into them and boutique stores that people would enjoy, that would help the building turn around.

Roof Top Duplex in New York

If you had $22 Million Dollars to spare then this is the Penthouse in New York City that you should get. There is something that I really like about Duplexes, they feel really spacious, especially on top of buildings such as these. This property has taken everything into account from a spacious library above the living room to the large pool in the terrace area. I’m a fan of the all steel Kitchen but the couch area is a nice break from the normal kitchen and its refreshing to see such a large Dining Room Table, means you can entertain more people at home. My favorite part is the library above the living room, it seems like you can do a lot with it. And this building has a beautiful view from every corner.

Comprised of 5 corner Bedrooms with 5½ ensuite bathrooms, this duplex located in the Dietz Lantern Building in Tribeca, New York City is nothing less but spectacular. The apartment occupies the building’s top two floors and features plenty of terraces, 50 windows and an amazing roof-top pool with plenty of space for entertainment.

Black & White Houses – Kuwait

I have probably passed this house at least 100 times over the past year, and I have seen it from the 5th ring road as it is getting built, always when on the way to the Avenues. To my surprise I find that the house is featured in a lot of architectural design sites and blogs, I saw and said to myself I knew that house only to read that it is in Kuwait. At first I thought it was three houses but turned out to be six houses molded together, you cant tell when one house starts and the other ends. I always liked the design of the house and wish more houses took this approach to the land they had instead of building the square blocks that they currently are building in most areas in Kuwait.

The project has been complete by AGI Architects who work in Kuwait and Spain, they really seemed to have worked on it to make these houses into the form that they are, with the combination of the white and black colors they merged the six houses on the three plots into overlapping volumes. From the pictures the house seems to have a lot of natural lighting and have been designed in a way to provide each home with its privacy yet seem as one unit, I love the underground parking I just hope it has more then two spots per garage. I’m not even sure how one person can reach the other garage but it is quite a lovely home.

Concrete House in Madrid

It takes a unique type of architect to meld concrete and green together to look as good as this amazing house. They have taken to meld the two themes together with greenery all over the place, but still looks like some sort of ultra modern bunker. With the right type of lighting you can do wonders and they have with this concrete structure. And what I love about the house is that it does have an underground garage, I see that as a must in any home, so you can protect your vehicles from the harshness of the outdoors.

This is built over 1600 square meter piece of land which is a substantial amount of area to work with. It honestly looks more like a gallery then a home, it looks as if it is meant to cater to large amounts of people to view art work. I do love the cinema they have, great size screen with comfortable seating, and the library is very fun. I just hope they have elevators as the stairs seem a bit steep and not child friendly. The one major thing this house is missing is color, I like the ultra modern design but something needs to warm it up a bit. You need some color to bring in the warmth of a house, I’m a firm believer that the internal of the house can relate to the exterior of the house but shouldn’t be limited to it, this house feels too cold and grey on the inside. I still find it amazing.

The Fish House in Singapore

A work of art made by Guz Architects in Singapore, an amazing water front property that incorporates the environment into the design of the house. An amazing landscape for a solar powered house, it has a very fresh and open feel to it. From every room you have an amazing view of the sea, every room looks spacious but I think they need just a little bit more funiture.

I like how they have made a cozy media room in the basement surrounded by the pool in a U-shaped form, but I wonder about the acoustics of the room that has three walls of glass. And I like how they have a lot of fun outdoor areas, the covered area on the ground floor, and the fun spot on the roof.

Empty L.A. – “I Am Legend” Feel

Matt Logue is a photographer who took the “I Am Legend” concept of New York and applied it to Los Angeles. I love the eerie feeling of the photographs, another version of “I Am Legend” or “Resident Evil”, as if there is a monster around the corner and you should be armed to the teeth with weapons. I don’t know how he did it, taking photographs of Los Angeles in this manner is nearly impossible, LA is never empty, unless your a big budget production company and can shutdown half the city for a few hours but this isn’t easy to pull off.

Unique Garage

There is always something special about a well kept garage but this house in Tokyo takes it to the next level. The client told the architects his requirements and they had 185 sq. meters to work with to make this project successful. The one main requirement is that it can store all 9 of his cars and they are visible from his living room. They ended up making a pristine garage with one lift to make the Lamborghini Countach Anniversary Edition viewable from the living room, now that is a nice view. The interior feels like a showroom rather then a living room, needs some more color and more of a personal touch to look lived in.
