Pretty Little Things @ Dar Al Sadu

Usually I don’t have time to go to events like these, always something that comes up but this time around I had the free time and decided to go, I went a bit early but it was really worth it. Last time Pretty Little Things was held in a house in one of the residential locations, this time around it was done in Dar Al Sadu just opposite Al Seef Palace. I haven’t been to Dar Al Sadu for a long time and I have to say that I was impressed how well done the place was, I’m going to visit it again at a later time but for now I was checking out some of the stalls and displays on these very talented people.

There was a charity event for the of the Orphans in Kuwait which I think was a fantastic idea, it is being run by Mabarat Khair Al Kuwait. The Orphans are currently in a housing area which is desperate need of reconstruction and refurbishment. They have taken it upon themselves to get this done through the support of this charity. There are about 17 buildings for these Orphans, they are more like prisons in the dilapidated state then they are homes for Children. and the renovation of each building costs around 30’000 KWD so through the help of this charity you can help. You can pick a room to install new tiles, or a new water system, or several areas. They are basically completely overhauling the place and then I think there would be another round to help with the essentials of the homes, and I was really surprised to hear how bad it was, I’m honestly curious to visit them and see if a person can enter them. I honestly always wondered how well Orphans in Kuwait fare and how many are there, and I was very happy to hear that Mabarat Khair Al Kuwait was doing something to help them. And with the help of Pretty Little Things they can help get them there.

Now for the stores that were there it was a mix of several types of stores from different nations other then Kuwait. These are some of the names that I passed by and my favorites are starred, keeping in mind that this is somewhat aimed towards women, more then men. I still liked the overall atmosphere and the people that I met, honestly it does make me proud to see people doing these things and I like the was Dar Al Sadu looked.

Stalls:

  • SO LULU – Lubna Al Nakib Jewelry
  • Lina Jewelry Design
  • Fyunka
  • Pieces By Farah – One Of My Favorites
  • The Yard – The Other Favorite
  • Camellia – Bukhour & Oud
  • Paper Design

Honestly there are somethings there that really impressed me, I do like seem cool designed furniture and thats the one that I liked the most. I think that I was probably one of the only men at that event, but luckily I went just at their opening. One of things that impressed me was the the CashToGo from Ahli Bank, so you could withdraw cash right there to pay for any items.

Singapore and Back

OrchardRd

Singapore has to be one of my favorite cities, my first visit was last year and this time we went for work and I enjoyed every moment there. We took Emirates airlines since it fits our schedule, and I slept on both flights to Singapore and from Singapore, the flights to Kuwait is a short 50 minutes duration so not enough time to sleep. And on the route to Singapore they use the new Boeing 777s which have very comfortable chairs, I basically slept for 7 hours straight, from the plane taking off until it landed which is perfect in both cases and kept me going the first day there and when I got back to Kuwait. We were only there for about 2 and half days, some work got finished and we still had a lot of fun, Singapore is one of my favorite cities to visit. A very diverse culture made up of Indians, Chinese and Malaysians, the main language of the country being English and everyone is extremely nice. I think they have the best public transportation I have seen period, and when you get in a taxi cab they always have a story to tell and some of them are insane which makes the ride that much more fun.

Proud To Be Kuwaiti

Now this turned out to be an interesting event, I knew a lot of people were going to go. But that wasn’t the case, I think all of Kuwait was in that small hall. The event opened up around 5:30 pm, I got there around 6:30 pm and there was barely enough room to walk.

There are three rows with multiple shops in each row, it reminded me of the old Kuwait streets with shops and open stalls. With the room split in half you can choose which side to walk first. I kept stopping at different stalls taking pictures and turns out a lot of people I know had stalls there. It was a great show of the different talent in Kuwait and all the different types of stores. There were clothing stores, catering, sandwich, chocolate, design, furniture design, hobby shop (R/C Cars, Planes, & Boats), Extreme Sports, Technology Design Firms, Cinematography, Exhibition Studios, Fine Arts, Publications, Photography, and the list goes on. Honestly I was surprisingly amazed from all these talented people, and the creative booths. I think even for the second year this expo has outgrown the size of that hall. There were a lot of nice booths with creative designs, and the best part were the amount of charismatic people. I think the make up booths were lost on me, but you could see all the girls piled up there. It got a little crowded later on, so I would recommend people to go as early as possible and it shouldn’t be missed.

I also snapped a funny photo of one of the event organizers who was confused by some wiring problem up above. On another note be aware that there are over 50 photos to this post, so it might take some time to load.
