M6GC2

I honestly wasn’t expecting this machine from BMW, the M Division used to be for racing machines, but over the years has developed into luxurious speed demons, so when the M6 Grand Coupe came out I didn’t know what to expect, I thought the M6 & M5 would be it for the big cars from the M Division. The M4 is coming because the M3 is no longer being produced, then you the Z Roadster M, but the M6 GC was a very pleasant surprise. I worried the gap between the M5 & M6 was so infinitesimally small as to render the M6 GC redundant, but, with its frame-less doors, bespoke M-Division goodies – carbon ceramic brakes with beautiful gold calipers, new twin-strut front grille, neat rear diffuser – it really does feel far more special than either. I have driven the new M6 and it is an amazing machine, and then I drove the M5 and I was genuinely disappointed. So where would this car fit into the mix.

M6GC3

To my eyes at least, it looks fantastic, no doubt the best of the current M crop and arguably BMW’s best-looking M-car in the best part of a decade. And not only is the GC easier on the eyes than the standard M6, even though I have always loved the M6 but the four-door coupe bodyshell seems a better match for the broad-chested V8 powerplant. From all the reviews I have read, everyone said the M6 GC is different then the M5, so different it got everything right that the M5 got wrong. I got the wrong feeling when I drove the M5, it was just good on a straight line, that’s it, but this machine looks to have gotten the right touch from the M Division and BMW Engineering.

M6GC4

The expense is ridiculous but that will drop, and odd the M6 GC may be, but it’s a winner: certainly my favourite of BMW’s big M cars and one of the finest fast Germans on sale. Good enough to defeat the bruising CLS 63 AMG, not to mention Audi’s upcoming RS7? It’ll be fun finding out when they match them up.

Police Supercars

BrabusRocketPolice

When people think police they don’t think Supercars or machines that can fly past a helicopter, but there are a few countries with high speed police that can chase you down. Well at least these police departments have some interesting machines to chase people, I know that some of them are for show but I know the Italian Polizia have used their vehicle during chases.

  • Germany – Brabus Rocket – Top Speed: 362 kph
  • Dubai – Lamborghini Aventador – 349 kph
  • Italy – Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 Spyder – Polizia Municipale – 324 kph
  • Belgium – Porsche 911 997 Turbo – 312 kph
  • Holland – Spyker C8 – Flevoland Police – 300 kph
  • Italy – Lotus Evora S – Carbinieri – 261 kph

FVD in Kuwait – Every Performance Part You Want From One Place

FVD

Finding the right automotive performance parts supplier is always a difficult process. In my case I’m always doing something with my M6, and a good supplier is always a difficult task to go through since you don’t trust them and slowly keep increasing orders.

About 10% of online automotive parts retails are crap, you get a bad apple once in a while and I have dealt with a few. During GulfRun we got informed that FVD Brombacher is opening up in Kuwait and I was excited because this is a German parts supplier and its always good to have more in Kuwait, FAST is also a good supplier from Audi in Kuwait, and Kromozone from Chevy as well.

But in my case I have a German car and recently ordered several parts from FVD Kuwait. Complete new brake system from Brembo through FVD Kuwait, he sorted out the details and including shipping came out cheaper then the online parts seller in the US, which shocked me. Also picked up DOT 6 Brake Fluid through them because of how much I abuse my car I want to make sure my brakes last. I was looking into some other performance parts but he convinced me not to get it, it takes a great supplier to tell you not to get something which will affect him negatively but he won a customer for life.

They provide the parts but don’t install it, in my case I take it to the dealership for installation at BMW, they have a few good guys. A few dealerships do installs like Audi, Chevy, BMW, and Porsche they each have their specialty.

If you are looking for any parts for any European or Japanese car, these are the guys to talk to.

BMW X6 – A Different Experience

BMWX61

This is the type of car that people either love or hate, and in my case I was slightly confused. I was in Dubai/Abu Dhabi for a few days and I asked for a Audi Q7 but to complications they gave me an X6 instead which is an upgrade with 300bhp V6. I wasn’t sure about it but I always wanted to try it, and it was an interesting machine to drive. For being the lowest model the car still moved, it had all the options on the interior and black as night windows. I haven’t driven an X5 in probably 8 years at least so this was a new machine to me, and I was always curious about the X6 M, people always had an opinion about the X6, they either loved it or hated it, it was always a passionate reaction.

BMWX62

The car was comfortable and the standard BMW amenities which did the job and on a long drive it was pretty comfortable honestly. The Navigation was really good and this time around you can go directly to each menu from buttons around the circular joystick, you don’t have to navigate all the menus to get to where you want. I think BMW have gotten better at that then before. I still find Audi a bit easier to use, but still the BMW system is really good. The car felt a bit weird, like you were driving a sports car but a bit higher and every time I bumped my head into the door frame when getting in, its an SUV with a compact form, just didn’t feel right. It was an interesting drive, but I would never buy this car.

Schengen Visa – Getting Difficult

Schengenzone

I just renewed my passport last year and I still had a valid US Visa for a few more years but my Schengen ran out, and my UK Visa ran out with my passport. The UK visa was straight forward, I submit the required documents and since I scanned the finger prints five years ago I don’t need to do it again.

I’m traveling and going through Germany so I submitted to get the Visa from the German Embassy with my original bookings at the time. I went to Al Qabas Visa processing in Sanabil Tower or Al Babtain Tower as it used to be remembered. Went through the process, it was smooth, they asked for my insurance, and the preliminary bookings. It was several weeks before my travel date which worked out fine.

I get notified after a week that my Schengen Visa was refused because I didn’t have a confirmed hotel booking and for 10 days I don’t have a hotel booking in Germany. I mentioned that Germany was not my end destination and they didn’t even pay attention to that. I was confused and pissed, there is even a stamp on my passport stating that my passport was reject by the German Embassy, on a new passport so that pissed me off.

I go back to them this time with the bookings stating that Germany is not my final destination, and the visa for the final destination is attached from when I originally submitted and if there were questions why didn’t anyone ask me, my cell phone number is on the form. The person at the counter didn’t type that up so they thought I was going to stay in Germany for 10 days without a hotel booking. Great, back to square one but this time instead of 5 days it took 3 days, and I got it after the weekend.

The surprising part was the Visa, the validity of it starts at the date of travel not when it is issued, usually the validity starts when the Visa is issued. And I only got 4 months when my previous one was three years, something is odd, but I will take it for now since I’m traveling soon. Still it was very odd that they are doing this and its not like I have had multiple Schengens before. so its surprising that they gave me such a short Visa validity. It seems they are getting more Anal or they want people to pay more for the Visas, I’m not sure what changed but its very annoying.

Friday – Out On The Town

Riding021301

A few more additions and a few old faces have joined our Friday morning ride and the group did get bigger. It’s sort of like organized chaos but with a lot of testosterone flying around. People are excited and some of these guys adore their machines, me being one of them. The thrill of riding just can’t be compared and that is what compels us to get up with only a few hours of sleep to ride in the morning.

Riding021302

We seem to be having a lot of Germans joining us these days, and they are impressive machines. We are a bit particular about who joins us on the ride because honestly it would be a bit dangerous for a novice to join us and there is a very good rythem going on with most the riders, there is a chaotic understanding that somehow works in this order. Some of the riders are extremely skilled and some of the riders are Cafe Racers like MFW, but still it’s a lot of fun and the best way to start off the day. Honestly we need more curvy roads, and I need to find them to freshen our routes a bit, change it up.

Panigale vs. S1000RR vs. F4R vs. RSVR

I bet they weren’t doing the speed limit when they were making the video! lol

I seriously want all of these machines in my garage, beautiful machines, I do love the Italian creations. Its a very fair comparison between the machines and their real life use. I loved the video, very well shot. I have tried three out of the four bikes, I haven’t had a chance to get my hands on a new MV Agusta yet but I will try one in the near future. As usual the BMW is top dog, its just such a well designed machine. The Panigale in my opinion is the sexiest machine out there, even though it gets a little too hot, its still one very enticing machine. The Aprilia is an excellent machine as they said but I think it’s made more for the track then the street.

My Preference of Bikes:

  • Ducati Panigale
  • MV Agusta F4R
  • BMW S1000RR
  • Aprilia RSVR

2013 BMW HP4

The beast has arrived, it wasn’t enough that the S1000RR was such an insane bike, they took it up a level with the HP4 and surprisingly the price isn’t too bad for a superbike that is meant to annihilate the competition. The one thing that they have done with this machine is give you a lot of option to choose from and then the other goodies such as the carbon fiber. I just love paint scheme on this BMW, I would love to get my hands on it.

The New BMW 6 Series

The Paris Autoshow is where every Automaker shows off their new machines, being it new production cars or concept cars. This year had a few interesting line ups but I wanted to see was the new 6 Series, and it looks good based on these pictures. Now this is the standard 6 series, not the M6 which will probably be following a few years later. They will pop a V6 twin turbo in the the 6 series and a V8 twin turbo into the M6 just as the they are in the 5 series. I for one am looking forward to seeing the M6 as BMW usually never disappoints.

Faber Castell – Perfect Pencils

Most everything is digital these day but when I go to meetings I have my trusty Moleskin with me and when I travel I have another for personal use. I like writing stuff down, drawing and doodling on the Moleskin. But with the perfect not pad you have to have the perfect tool, and in this case it the Faber-Castell pencils, I have been using them for a while, regular pencils and mechanical pencils. My drawing skills are no better then that of a 3 year old but I still like to draw and sketch, its always a good way to display ideas and I’m always noting stuff down or trying to draw things.

I have picked up about six different pens and pencils over the last two years and I use them all, I have some which are clipped onto a specific note pad and some I use for doodling. And recently I bought a drawing pencil set, from 6H to 8B, and I don’t even know what that means except maybe the thickness of the lead of the pencils, its just normal black pencils which I use for drawing and shading and some of these are very thick so its going to be fun trying them out. I have found these pencils available in Magahwi in Salmiya and Kuwait City opposite Khaleejeya complex, and in Greece Airport, Singapore Airport, all over the UK. If your a person that enjoys their writing and drawing utensil then this is the perfect tool.
