The Heat Is Coming

This is probably one of the more interesting rides we have had this season, we started off as five ended up being 11 machines on this little outing. We are trying to ride as much as possible these days because its getting hotter and hotter. That morning I felt pretty crappy because of a Flu that was on its way, I pretty much ignored the feeling, took Dayquil, drank some fizzy Vitamin C and headed out. I know it wasn’t the smartest decision, but I have one Friday and I have to ride at any chance that I get.

As soon as I was on the bike the fresh air cleared my lungs, I honestly felt more attentive to the details around me, more alive with the rush of air and the sound of my exhaust. We went around town as much as possible with a stop in Doha which you can see from the video below, and this doesn’t always happen but we had a request for the BMW S1000RR and MV Agusta Brutale to go head to head, and they are both lovely and amazing machines.

We also ended up going to Wataniya Airport just off Sabhan highway and it was faling apart, the roof was coming off, nobody was using it or maintaining it. The one time I think the government should have stepped in is to bring that company back. They left Kuwait Airways to fall apart over the years and the one time we had something to be proud of it launched during a difficult financial time. We kept on riding until it hit about 31 Degrees while we were outside, as long as we were moving it was cool, but you can feel that summer is here, and its going to get hotter.

Tea

And we are back to the best month of the year, Ramadan is one of my favorite times in the year, it also the most exhausting. I love that I get to see so many family and see them daily, its a family gathering almost every day, something to look forward to throughout the day. Lots of social events taking place after futoor for the first two weeks, its going to be a marathon going from dewaneya to dewaneya but thats part of Ramadan. A lot of people watch the shows taking place but I prefer making the most I can out of the day, and the best part is I get to finish so much during the day, lets just hope it cools off.

Night Ride @ 38C

It has been too long since I have taken a ride out at any point in time, the heat came with those sand storms and very strange weather. It made riding nearly impossible with zero visibility, and lucky for me I came back to the perfect weather, or the beginning of it at least. I can’t believe how nice the weather is early in the morning or after sunset. I came back from work a little annoyed with a few things on my plate and I decided to get a shave and take a ride to unwind.

Before taking my impromptu trip I called up TriStar and asked them to service all the machines, after I took off they came a few days later took the KTM RC8, Ducati 1098s, and BMW K1200R for a full service and check up. They changed the from discs and pads on the RC8 under warranty, they changed the rear tire of the K1200R, changed the oil and filters of all the machines, they changed the battery of the RC8 and 1098s, the chains were adjusted, cleaned and oiled. All three machines were run on the dyno to test it out. Got them all ready for riding season.

I changed from my dishdasha to my riding gear, and damn that felt really good, I’m just a little over weight and that requires adjustment. I had my playlist ready with music topped up on my iPod Nano. And I took off to Salmiya and later on drove down the GulfRoad to Miseela and then back home. It was just the perfect ride, I was in sync with my machine but I have to get my skills back up to par, I felt something was a little off with me and not the Ducati. I need to regain my sense of balance with this machine, I was one very happy rider, I caught myself a few times smiling while riding and listening to the music. The cool breeze was perfect even with the engine boiling my leg a little bit, these Italians knew what they were doing when they built this machine, so much passion, I felt like it was an animal that is happy to be out of its cage. I’m really happy that the weather is cooling down earlier this year, I will be doing some late night or early morning riding for the next couple of weeks, damn I missed riding.

Ramadan Kareem

Ramadan Kareem to all, this is going to be an interesting one since its going to be in the lovely heat of the summer. We are trying to keep our activities the same on the weekend, I’m still trying to get up on the wake board, we just have to deal with the thirst. As usual it isn’t the hunger that gets me but the thirst. I honestly look forward to Ramadan every year since I get to see family so much, but I get annoyed with people who don’t want to work because they are fasting and a lot of things come to a halt in Kuwait because of that but here is hoping everyone has a fun Ramadan.

A/C Out!

Got up in the morning headed to work, weather was deecent on Thursday morning. All was well, plugged in my laptop, checked my emails and a few people. About an hour later I strange buzzing sound and a sudden smell, turns out the smell was of a burnt out fuse. With that the power sockets and A/C went out in my side of the building, luckily other side had more employees they still had power and A/C but no lights, so they could still work. After about a few hours my laptop ran out of power and I was going back and forth talking to people and writing things down. By 3 pm the room was really warm, it got a bit muggy, and I had a ton of paper notes on my table with spread sheets, quotes and proposals. It wasn’t fixed for a while since the electrician wasn’t available, lets just say its not nice to work in a hot office.

Broken A/C

The best part when going to sleep is the cold bed and room, I tend to like to sleep in freezing room. After the past weeks of dust storms the A/C got a bit clogged up, called the A/C guy and it turns out a lot of the parts weren’t working and need to be replaced. Took about a week to get all the parts and I was going nuts from the my warm room. If the bed gets warm then I can’t really sleep except if I’m tired. As soon as they fixed the A/C I could sleep normally again with the room slightly below freezing, doesn’t matter whats the temperature outside, I like the room freezing cold.

Dubai in the Summer

It doesn’t feel like it yet, but summer has kicked in. It feels like there is still a lot of work to be done and we are far away from a vacation but this heat has kicked in. In Dubai it was humid and a little hot, you find people just wiping the sweat off their brows. If you walk out of a cooled building wearing sunglasses you won’t be able to see anything since your glasses fog up.

Dubai felt a little on the empty side, most of everyone was in the malls during this period. This is the first time I see Mall completely packed so early in the afternoon, but it seems that its so humid outside that nobody really wants to be outside. It did feel nice for once that there wasn’t a lot of traffic on the streets.
