Wanken & Designspiration Office

There is always something good about having a very comfortable office. This is the offices of Wanken & Designspiration for working all types of media. Taking photographs and plastering all over the wall for inspiration, I really like that idea, and thinking of applying to my office. Its interesting that he uses the Yashica and the iPhone as his photography tools, I have equipment laying around but not as utilized or organized yet.

Wanken originally started as a video production venture by brother and myself in 2004. After a while video production become less of an interest so I took Wanken and ran with it in a different direction involving design and photography. The first versions of Wanken.com were interesting to say the least–full flash sites with intros and hit counters. When the blog started it was only photography but soon after, my interests evolved; architecture and graphic design became more prominent.

Office Reorganization

CableManagement

Cable management is a headache that I have to deal with, and its one of the major problems that I have to deal with it. After some time I’m gonna reorganize my machines and all the connections since there are a few redundant items that I need to get rid off. I want to run all the wires together to make sure they all fit perfectly instead of the gridlock that I get to behind my desk.

Now I want to upgrade from my 22″ inch screens to the new Dell 27″ inch screens which are amazing. But I have to email the manufacturer to see if the Ergotron dual screen mount can left the weight of each.

Then I have a lot of CDs & DVDs in storage, the DVDs I want to keep but the CDs I honestly don’t want to keep. And I’m too damn lazy to rip them to the computer. So I have to figure out what I want to do with them. I only buy a few CDs every 6 months now, but the ones I have are really old and I only wanted one or two tracks from them.

HumanScale Freedom Headrest

I have picked up my chair back in 2004 and it has served me very well, but has also been used and abused. I have been looking for a comfortable office chair which can tilt the head, back, and arms without issue. After looking around it seems that there aren’t seats which are as good as what I have.

Now the Humanscale Freedom headrest has all the options I’m looking for, with the back support, moveable arms, moveable headrest. I like it to be cloth and able to move up and down, and lean back a lot so I can relax and watch shows on the computer, and lean forward and work when I need to. It start out at around $1305 and goes up with all the options, and I got mine up to $1600 with all the options. After looking at all the different possible chairs, this looks to be the best, not including all the systems they have for a personal or corporate office that I like. I will be taking a look and Humanscale when I do some remodling.

Clean Up

I did some major clean up today, I got fed up with the lack of space I have and the pile up of papers. For some reason I had papers which I really didn’t need and magazines from three to four years ago which I have no clue why I kept, I flipped through them and threw them away. Then I turned my attention to the DVD stacks I had. I decided to turn all my attention to DVD stacks I have in the basement and a majority of them are DVD copies which I bought over the years. In 2007 I bought a few DVD copies but since then I didn’t buy any at all, some were DVD rips, some were shaky cameras and they drove me nuts, didn’t feel like driving back to Hawally and complaining.

  • 164 Crappy DVDs = 246 KD (@1.5KD per DVD)

As I was cleaning up I found a stack of HD-DVDs from some of the movies that I did buy and think they are worth keeping. I still think these movies are a keeper, but who would have thought there would be a media war like the one we lived through. As for people like us who are early adopters are considered casualties of that war, I still don’t regret buying these movies.

HD-DVDs:

  • King Kong
  • The Matrix
  • The Matrix Reloaded
  • The Matrix Revlotuions
  • Blade Runner
  • Batman Begins
  • Bourne Identity
  • Bourne Supremacy
  • Bourne Ultimatum
  • Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
  • Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
  • Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
  • Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
  • Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
  • Army of Darkness

Herman Miller Mirra Chair

There are always different office chairs available ranging from 10 KD to 1000 KD, all depends on what you want. I just look for comfort and how much I can lean back while staying in the seat for long periods. The Herman Miller chairs were known for their comfort, keeping your posture, functionality, and simple good looks. Once they came out with the Mirra chair as their next generation flagship chair it took off, and for good reason. I think it has a unique design with a mesh back that makes it comfortable to sit in for long periods, and looks good too.

Price: $700
