Now Both iPod Nano’s Are Gone

LunaTikDeadNano

The iPad Nano with my LunaTik were the perfect combination for the longest time, especially when riding. I remember when I first got the LunaTik in May 2011, it was the main reason I got the iPod Nano, it was the perfect fit for riding and controlling the music, right from my wrist, I can make changes without having to open my jacket.

The iPod Nano with the black plastic strap died in December of 2012, but the Nano with the Red LunaTik frame died this past weekend, exactly two years since I started using it and now I have no use for my LunaTik even though I love it and still use it, the only place I can find iPod Nanos at this stage is on Ebay, I’m annoyed that it barely has a two year life span. I plugged it in and said ERROR in 8-bit font, went off and never came back again. I’m not getting the new Nano, no use for it, I still have to stuff it in my pocket to use it so in that case I’m better off using my phone.

My LunaTik & TikTok

A little while back I came across Kickstarter and saw that its a website with people pledging for innovating products and designs. Lunatik was product that was getting a lot of press and for good reason, its an amazingly designed and simple. I pledged for it right away because I liked it even though I don’t have a Nano.

I pledged and got the LunaTik & the TikTok and I picked up a Graphite 16GB Nano when the LunaTik went out for delivery, and then I got a Silver Nano as a gift later on. The funny part is I never had a reason to buy a Nano, I had the old Nano and it was perfect for my riding needs but when this came along I went ahead got one. So I was just waiting for the delivery of the LunaTik to come along.

I got a notification of the arrival in my mailbox at myUS. Right away I had it sent to Kuwait and was looking forward to getting my hands on it. Opening the box right away I love the packaging, so simple and nice design to display the product, and they send you the tools to dismantle the LunaTik. Right away I opened up the TikTok and placed the iPod Nano in it, and started syncing it. Then I opened up the Lunatik

LunaTik Multi-Touch Watch – Kickstarter

Scott Wilson is the designer behind the TikTok & LunaTik that has stormed the web the past month, every tech and designer website talking about it. It honestly deserves the fame just because of the unique and high quality design, it even appealed to me.

TikTok and LunaTik simply transform the iPod Nano into the world’s coolest multi-touch watches. The idea to use the Nano as a watch was an obvious one ever since the product was announced. But we wanted to create a collection that was well designed, engineered and manufactured from premium materials and that complemented the impeccable quality of Apple products. Not just clipped on a cheap strap as an afterthought. We wanted to create a product that your friends and strangers would stop you and ask “WTF is that??? And where can I get one?!”

That isn’t the only thing that got me interested, I clicked on the link and found myself at the TikTok+LunaTik Kickstarter page. This was an interesting experience, you pledge certain amount of money and you get a product or certain products all based on the amount you pledge, its like preordering the product at the price you choose based on the package you want. Turns out Kickstarter is a new concept which helps designers and product developers to get the income they need to make their product, its a unique and fantastic approach to connect the developers with the consumers. TikTok+LunaTik was an extremely successful result, the goal of the pledges was $15’000 but it shot past it up to $941,718 which is extremely alot more then they were expecting. I pledged $160 to get the TikTok & LunaTik, I honestly never really thought about the iPad Nano except after seeing this design, it would make it easier more me to put on a watch and listen to music while riding then to have it in my pocket. The design is genius and because of this design it urged me to get the Nano, so I think they have been successful in designing a product which would appeal to people and everyone loved it. I think that the Kickstarter Platform is fantastic and I’m looking at other products that they might have, it ranges from music to photography equipment, I’m enjoying seeing these interesting products.

iPod Car Integration

After all these years you’d think that every vehicle manufacturer would have some sort of iPod integration. Not every car has the perfect integration, some cars do have issues but they do have integration. Apple has the market cornered and I’m too happy but its a great working product with amazing sound quality. Some have direct integration into the sound system, some have other solutions.

There are a few options for iPod integration, some cars have auxiliary input, and if you have nothing the best quick solution is an FM Transmitter. FM Transmitter is the simple but annoying solution but the only one that really works is the Griffin transmitter and all the others don’t work. Tape deck is only for those cars that have tape decks but very few cars have them anymore. Getting a new deck doesn’t really work for new cars because it really ruins the look but still their are other solutions. Right now I’m looking at the DICE solution for my little problem, because getting used to the iPod in a car every day and then not having it is like going through an addiction withdrawl.

Alternative Solutions:

  • FM Transmitter
  • Tape Deck
  • Auxiliary Input

My iPod Nano 4G

I ordered this a couple of weeks back now, and it took two weeks to ship from Amazon and another week to arrive from Aramex. I kept hearing good reviews about it and how the build quality is high.

The package arrived and it weighed less the 1 lb, 0.65lbs to be exact. The best thing is unpacking an Apple product, they do know how to make simple and quality packaging. I liked the color of the Black or more like Dark Grey iPod Nano. As soon as you open it you realize how then it is. I couldn’t believe they fit 16 GB into something that thin, and its extremely light. I needed an mp3 player to use when I’m riding and this turned out to be the perfect player, you don’t even feel it in your pocket.

The screen quality and brightness are amazing, I haven’t seen something such as this before. You can clearly see the screen in bright day light, I was changing songs looking at the screen while wearing my motorcycle helmet during broad day light and I have a tinted screen. The scroller feels very nice and precise so I was clicking away. Surprisingly this mp3 player is louder through the same headphones then my iPod Touch. I usually set the volume just below the maximum when I’m riding to be able to hear it when its windy, but this was clearly louder and I was enjoying that.
