Being A Kid Has Nothing To Do With Age – I love that statement, that is very true about myself, and I will always be this way. So seeing what hot wheels did with this track is just over the top and I love it. They did a casting call for the kids but they really wanted the dads, now that is a very cool marketing idea, well done hot wheels!

Ubiquitous – The Most Masculine Office I Have Seen

I always like seeing these crazy offices and its usually the tech companies that have them, but this time it comes from Ubiquitous, a communication company, I think marketing and branding. They have made the most masculine office I have ever seen, it looks like an old gentlemen’s club where people should be smoking cigars and drinking whiskey, not people working on computers. It’s rare to see an office using black walls and dark wood, but this place got it right, I wouldn’t mind working in an office like that.

Viva Online Marketing

Recently Viva have been tackling more and more online marketing, pretty much all of the telecom companies are seeing the value of social networking and blogs in Kuwait and its a very nice thing the Big Three are doing. Recently over the past year Viva seemed to be aggressive about gaining online coverage getting more and more blogs but what I find to be restrictive about their sponsorship. If you are sponsored by Viva you can’t cover any social networking event by the other telecom companies, and you can’t cover new product details of the other company. This is when I think that advertising isn’t worth it when there are restrictions of these kinds attached to it.

Update: Wataniya & Zain do not have that policy, they are fairer in the way they do business.

Starbucks Marketing

I think we would all agree that there is Starbucks in every corner in Kuwait, to say that Kuwait’s market is saturated is an understatement. But I will admit that I do like Starbucks, depending on my mood I like to have either a Mocha Frappachino or Raspberry Frappachino. A lot of people go in and out of Starbucks at different times, I tend to go every blue moon during the day, I never visit during the night. Well it seems that Al Shaya’a are paying very close attention to their sales, sales at night seems to be dropping based on the marketing scheme they currently have. On my last receipt I got stamp stating I will receive a 25% discount from my next purchase after 7:00pm, and I think that is genius on their end. It seems they are paying very close attention to their trends and how things move with them. One thing I still don’t understand is why they don’t allow tips, sometimes I do want to tip them, but there is no tip jar and they don’t accept it as if they are afraid of the tip or who might see.

Micorsoft UK & Halo Wars Marketing Idea

It seems Microsoft UK has gone down an interesting road in its PR campaign for Halo Wars. A little skin of the “Biggest” Halo fan in the UK with a Halo Wars tank top isn’t the smartest thing in the world. It seems a well planned PR campaign went down the drain, and its not that men won’t like this but they aren’t giving gamers the credit they deserve, some skin doesn’t even sell more games, its the content and the quality of the game. You would think they would know that from Gears of War, Gears of War 2, and Halo 3 which are still chart toppers and keeps people playing XBox 360. Also I think it would be good if Amanda would hold the controller to the screen, at least make her look like she knows how to fire a rocket launcher or stick a grenade to the enemy!
