GulfRun 9 – Around the Corner

This is one of the very exciting times for me of the year, I love going to GulfRun, getting all the cars ready and just talking shop with so many people is always crazy. Now the count down is here and we are at the final stages before heading to Bahrain.

The Car Show is on the 10th & 11th of January @ 360 Mall with a lot of amazing machines to see. Can’t wait to get to the track, seriously excited about it.

GulfRun Karting Endurance Race III

GRKarting2013A

It’s Here
It’s Today
It’s A Lot Of Fun

A lot of people are going to be up for the 24 hour race, its fun seeing the start and the finish. There are over 18 teams comprised of men and women, with about 8 to 12 members per team in this insane 24 hour race. Yesterday was the practice and I think qualifying but today its going to be the start of the intense race and some of these guys get very serious. Its

GulfRun 24Hr Endurance Race

This is the 2nd year this event takes place and my hat goes off to all the participants, it was extremely professional by the organizers and the teams, and these guys were ready to drive for 24 hours. I was there for a 6 hours the first day and 9 hours the second day, I for one managed to sleep but some of these teams went all out. It was an extremely fun event in the Mishref Fairgrounds, people were operating like they were professional F1 teams, they really had their work cut out for them, and some teams even had team managers.

The Final Ranking of the Top Four were:

1 – Team Shanabz
2 – JPS Racing
3 – Gulf Cable Company
4 – McDonalds

I admire what these guys did and some of them have been training for months, and some of these guys race regionally and I honestly think we have the best of the best in Kuwait. There were so many kids going nuts and how intense the racing was, you could feel the electricity in the air. I for one loved it, there was a few close calls, I tried taking as many good pictures as I can when the carts were coming around the corners but there was a few times when it got a little too close. It’s great seeing companies such as Wataniya Telecom, Audi, GoPro, Goal, Moonlight Studios, Goal, Gulf Cable, and The Quarter Mile Club supporting such an event, it honestly was extremely professional organized by GulfRun & Provision. I think everyone was very happy the way things turned out.

You could even watch race results online through an Application called Race Monitor, I was impressed, everyone kept checking the stats on their phones while the application was running during the race. Food was constantly coming in, and people were passed out in different spots, you could tell some of these drivers were operating purely on willpower, going over 30 hours with no sleep in extreme physical conditions, I think they might have slept for two days after that race. It was a hell of a time and I loved watching them towards the end.

Team Shanabz & JPS Racing were really going at it towards the end and these guys were extremely strategic with their driver selection. Two factors came into play, Driver Weight and Skill, that was it. I don’t think I would have last more then 20 mins driving one of those Karts let alone 2 – 3 hours like some of those drivers.

Helmet Line Up 2012

ARAI DUCATI CORSE RXV CARBON HELMET

They took the best Carbon Fiber motorcycle helmet and made it even cooler, I LOVE this version, but I don’t love the price. I would love to add this to my collection, but I don’t think I will be getting it any time soon. I think I wouldn’t wear it because I would be afraid to damage it.

Price: $4000

AGV ROSSI WINTER TEST HELMET

I’m not the biggest fan of AGV Helmets because of the lining and they just don’t fit my head very well. But I love the Valentino Rossi designs they come up with and this is one of my favorite ones. I love how they incorporate the Sun design as well and the black and yellow colors.

Price: $800

ARAI DUCATI TRI-COLOR HELMET

I can’t help but love Arai helmets because it kept my head safe from two crashes and they are just so damn comfortable. There is something I can’t resist about the Tri-Color design, the bikes and now this helmet. I just find them so appealing and I think this is the coolest Tri-Color Arai helmet yet.

Price: $900

AGV Rossi “Five Continents” GP-Tech Helmet

One of Rossi’s original designs with his colors, it is just one dynamic helmet. Honestly I would just place it as a furniture piece and never wear it. It doesn’t match any piece of motorcycle clothing I have but I do LOVE the paint work on it.

Price: $530

NEXX XR1R CARBON HELMET

A very cool helmet with a fun Carbon and White design, now this one I would wear since it goes with a Red, White, or Black motorcycle. And I have tried this helmet before, loved the lining, and very comfortable.

Price: $600

AGV GP Tech Rossi Limited Edition Faces Helmet

Now this one is all Valentino Rossi, this one you really can’t where, but it is a work of art. It has an Andy Warhol touch to it with the pop art feel, I would have this a shelf piece as well. This is for the Rossi fan, they would adore it and take care of it.

Price: $800

2013 BMW HP4

The beast has arrived, it wasn’t enough that the S1000RR was such an insane bike, they took it up a level with the HP4 and surprisingly the price isn’t too bad for a superbike that is meant to annihilate the competition. The one thing that they have done with this machine is give you a lot of option to choose from and then the other goodies such as the carbon fiber. I just love paint scheme on this BMW, I would love to get my hands on it.

BMW HP4 – Base Model ($19,990 MSRP):

  • Dynamic Damping Control (DDC) semi-active suspension

  • Akrapovic full titanium exhaust

  • Race ABS with new IDM calibration
  • Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) with new 14-step adjustability

BMW HP4 – Standard Package ($20,525 MSRP):

The Premium Package ($24,995 MSRP):

  • All base model items
  • Competition Package (individually priced at $4,470):

  • HP carbon trim
  • HP folding clutch and brake levers
  • HP rider footrests – adjustable
  • Forged aluminum wheels in Racing Blue Metallic
  • Sponsor decal kit (not mounted)
  • Pillion Rider Package (described above)
  • Heated Grips

Optional extras: Heated grips ($250) & an anti-theft alarm ($395).

BMW HP4 Motorcycle

Only serious speed junkies need apply. The BMW HP4 is a freak of nature, the S1000RR destroyed so many machines, people were not expecting such a beast, and now they topped it off with HP4. The lightest 4-cylinder supersports bike in the 1000cc class, the HP4 has 193 horsepower, and weighs under 440 pounds with its tank 90% full. I love the color scheme of this machine, I would love to add it to my collection, I’m already imagining the things I would do with this machine. BMW has gone all the way with so many options for this machine, and you can turn it into a racing beast or a weekend monster.

Review: Fastest

Shot around the world in 2010 and 2011 and narrated by Ewan McGregor, ‘Fastest’ captures the intense and thrilling reality of the MotoGP World Championship, documenting a pivotal moment in the sport. With Valentino Rossi chasing his tenth World Championship title the Italian ran into one of the toughest challenges of his career: a crop of exceptionally fast young competitors, a horrific leg break at his home race, and an amazing comeback little over 40 days later. Confronting such a monumental task and with rival Jorge Lorenzo taking the 2010 title, Rossi faced up to one of the most testing year’s in his illustrious career and along with his fellow competitors was left asking: Who is the fastest rider now?

Motorcycle Racing is one of the most dangerous sports out there, men riding side by side at an excess of 330 kph in corners on two wheeled machines. MotoGP is considered the best of Motorcycling, every team and company putting their riders on the line to becoming champions. I have always watched MotoGP on TV and I know its intense, but you can never really tell how it is or what they riders are thinking, and this is the main reason why I wanted to see this movie, you jump right into their paddocks, right behind them the intense moments. I have to say that having Ewan McGregor narrate throughout the movie is a huge plus, you can tell how passionate he is about MotoGP and the riders. You get a front seat view of how these riders became what they are and how they think, I loved it, it was brought together perfectly, the only thing that I wanted more was to see more. I would want another movie like this of these guys in the near future. On a side note this is the second movie the first one was a few years ago called Fast but I haven’t been able to find it online but seeing this one got my blood pumping so for any motorcycle fan this is a must see.

Bugatti Veyron vs Lamborghini Aventador vs Lexus LFA vs McLaren MP4-12C

This is just a ridiculous race that just has to be seen, I for one am not a fan of Bugatti Veyron. As for the other machine, I’m much more of a fan of the other cars. There were a few surprises for me during this drag race, but it isn’t always about the straight line, some of these machines perform very differently on the track.

Donkervoort D8 GTO

Dutch sports car maker Doonkervoort was planed a D8 GTO revamp for last year, and they have come through with this beast a year later. The D8 GTO was fitted with a slightly modified 2.5-liter TSFI Audi Engine, and they worked with the Audi engineers to cater the engine to this machine. I love the look of this machine and I think its a beast, I would love to see this machine in real life and try it out. While the first set of 25 cars with the Audi engines are already on sale right now, you can expect the “regular” versions with an a different engine later in 2012. Prices start at €100,000 ($130,130) and can go as high as €150,000 ($195,210)

The car sports a “steel-tube frame is wrapped in carbon panels and a one-piece door that swings up quasi Koenigsegg style”. It makes 340-400 horsepower depending on whether you flick a “race module” switch, and 331 pound-feet of torque. Those numbers in a two-seater that weighs just 1,540 pounds should make this the quickest car in Donkervoort’s stable.
