Review: Sengoku Basara – The Last Tea Party

With the fall of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Japan is once again plunged into chaos as his once subordinate Ishida Mitsunari looks to seek revenge against Date Masamune. Tokugawa Ieyasu however seeks a different path despite having once been under Toyotomi’s forces. Their fates soon intertwine with Sanada Yukimura’s and other warriors across the land. With a new unknown threat looming over the land, all warriors advance to Sekigahara for a final showdown…as a sinister plot unfolds in the background.

The movie to tie up parts of season 1 and season 2, I can never get enough of Sengoku Basara, the characters and story are just too good. And this 90 min movie will get your blood pumping, Ieyasu Tokogawa is trying to unite the Land Of The Rising Sun using bonds and reason, twice it has been burnt & hurt by power to dominate from Nobunaga and Hideyoshi. This time around the Tiger of Kai & Dragon of Oshu are against insane odds, with so many generals on the field it is an epic battle. As the battle takes place the real enemy appears and again all of the generals must unite in this battle to stop the threat against the Land Of The Rising Sun. As I have said it before the animation of this anime is amazing, the movie is just as good as the series, and I love the characters, any anime fan will love this.

Review: Brave 10

Plot Summary: A year before the battle of Sekigahara that ended the Sengoku Period, the ninja Saizou Kirigakure meets the miko Nami Isa as she’s attacked by assassins. Her shrine was destroyed by Tokugawa Ieyasu for siding with Yukimura Sanada. Meanwhile, Sanada has been gathering ten warriors known as Sanada’s Brave 10, who have the power to change history. As they gather one by one, Nami’s own mysterious power awakens.

Ninjas, Samurais, thrown into a political battle of lords, and 10 different fighters who somehow end up in Yukimura Sanada’s camp. The story is pretty good with a good amount of comedy and suspense thrown into the mix, and who doesn’t like when Ninja’s and Samurai start fighting. Isanami is one of the more interesting characters and her power’s seem to be showing themselves as things get worse for the 10. Its a fun anime that started off great but lacked a bit of substance, still it was a lot of fun to watch, I hope this story gets another season.

Anime List 04/12

Now I remember why I went on a short Anime break, its addicting, I’m loving a lot of shows that I have saved up and I’m watching them almost one shot. I’m watching the list below all at the same time depending on my mood since they are all pretty good and different. I recently finished a few and added to the list below, and recently I heard some news which shocked me, Bleach has come to an end. Its a bit shocking because that is the anime that got me into downloading torrents, before I used to buy the DVDs and wait months or years to watch them in the US but then I discovered Bleach towards my last year in the US and loved it. I stopped watching it at episode 189 and now it has ended on 366 which I heard is an epic Battle, so when I start Bleach I won’t stop.

  • Brave 10 – Loving Every Piece Of It
  • Inu X Boku Secret Service – A Surprising Anime Indeed
  • Mazinkaiser SKL – All Action Loving It
  • Mobile Suit Gundam Age – Enjoying It
  • Stiens Gate – Trippy To Watch

Going To Watch:

  • Fate Zero
  • Darker Then Black
  • Guilty Crown

Samurai Demise

Up until the 1800s there were Samurais in Japan, then came the battle between the gun and the sword, but the Samurai spirit still lives within the Japan. The sad part is that even the acting roles of Samurai practitioners has decreased drastically over the past few years. I don’t even remember seeing a really good Samurai movie in a while, these guys practice sword fighting constantly to perfect their form, and it would be a huge loss if we lost this art form.

Cup Of Tears – Samurai Short Film

Plot Summary:

Cup Of Tears follows a scorned geisha who creates a magical cup made of tears that causes any man who drinks from it to fall into a permanent sleep. One night the cup is stolen, setting off a chain of events that threatens civil war amongst the clans. Taro, a gifted samurai, sets out to find the cup and one who can break the spell.

I saw this short feature film and thought “where the hell is this movie”, only to know that this is still in development. Now this would be a very cool movie, I love martial airts/Japanese movies such as these, they are so damn cool and fun to watch. The story looks good and the fightign scenes are just amazing, I wish I could handle a sword like that.

Review: The 47th Samurai – Stephen Hunter

The Japanese way of life is something I fine intriguing and interesting, they have a unique way of thinking and different approach to many things. Such as the balance between the Nippon Government and the Yakuza. Bob Lee Swagger is a retired Gunnery Sergeant from the Marine Corps who has a very comfortable life, until a Japanese man comes into his life looking for the sword of his father from WWII who could have been killed by Earl Swagger, Bob’s father. Bob has slowly started piecing things together from his father’s past and started getting all the pieces of the pie to find this sword, as he feels an obligation to this Japanese man but he doesn’t know the events that will transpire when he finds and delivers this sword to Phlip Yano. I really liked the character of Bob Lee Swagger, but after reading up on Stephen Hunter I expected a little more. The story was fun and I enjoyed following it but some of the pain characters just didn’t come across, they lacked depth and so when a few things were coming together I couldn’t understand the relevance. Also it just didn’t feel like Hunter really got the Japanese mentality down correctly, but overall I did enjoy the story and there was a lot of enjoy with the discussion about the blades. It was a story that kept me turning page after page, overall it was an enjoyable read but a few parts didn’t add up just the way it should.
