7.2 Home Theater Setup

Currently going ahead with a new home theater setup and I have been looking at a lot of different combinations, and so many different setups to learn from. I went with the DLP screen since I have the space to work with, and I love big screens. I have a lot of machines that will be connected to it for our viewing pleasure, such as: Home Theater PC, PS3 Slim, XBox 360, Sonos Music Player, and OSN Box. I have decided to go with a 7.2 setup since I have the chance and space this time around. After careful and continuous research these are the components of the system I have put together for the perfectly loud and crisp sound that I am looking for will all my movies, games, and tv shows. And enough Bass to shake the house down.

Components:

  • A/V Receiver – Onkyo TX-NR1008
  • 2 Front Speaker & 1 Center Speaker – Paradigm Speakers
  • 2 Rear Speaker & 2 Surround Speakers – In-Ceiling Meridian Speakers
  • 2 Subwoofers – Earthquake Front Facing Subwoofer

Once all the components come together I will be making a more detailed post and review of the items.

Libratone Beat

For that wireless speaker you have been looking for the Libertone Beat has the answer. I really like the style of this speaker and its different forms of connectivity. A wireless speaker with a 50W bass and two 25W tweeter/midrange drivers. Just plug in the USB transmitter to your PC or the bundled 30-pin connector to an iOS device and you’re good to go. Plays audio from iPod, iPhone or iPad using the wireless 30-pin transmitter (range 10 m) or from a USB equipped MAC/PC using the wireless USB transmitter (range 30 m).You can even have a wired option if you would, you can play wirelessly over your iPad, iPhone, or iPod and controller multiple Beat Speakers. I think this is the best wireless speaker I have seen yet, and for $595 it’s worth for those who need a speaker such as this.

Playlist 10/10

While I was in California I picked up on a few songs as well as adding to the usual list. Eminem, Rihanna, with Lil Wayne topping most of list. I loved listening to these songs while driving and riding in California, good music blasting in the car and in my headphones. Enimen’s new CD is just amazing, I downloaded the whole thing a while ago but didn’t have a chance to listen the whole CD except on this trip, and Rihanna just keeps getting better and better. Enjoy the music.

Bower & Wilkins MM1 – Best 2.0 Speakers Period

I’m a firm believer in quality sound from your computer, and usually its a combination of the right sound card with the speakers. In this case I have an excellent Logitech 2.1 Speakers and never found any reason to replace them, and they are still doing their job. Recently hearing the Bowers & Wilkins MM1 Speakers, I was blown away, they are makers of some exquisite speakers, and now they have made the MM1s. The crisp sound quality is fantastic, you can hear the highs and the lows, from music to TV shows and video games. The remote is simple to operate and has all the controls you need. Whats surprising is the amount of base these little guys pack into the small speakers, I have a large subwoofer sitting under my desk and it booms, but these little guys do pack a punch they you wouldn’t need a big subwoofer under your desk. I pretty much watch most of my TV shows and anime at my desk, legs up and sound blasting, I’m happy with the speakers I have but if they weren’t as good as they are, I would go for the MM1s in a heart beat. They are bit pricey at $500 but Bowers & Wilkins make quality products, and they usually last a long time.

Envision – Home Theater & Automation Company

Places such as these in Kuwait are far and few, I was invited to the soft launch of a Home Theater & Home Automation Company in Tilal Complex. I didn’t have very high expectations, but the staff asked me to pass by during the soft opening and to say my expectations were blown out of the water is an understatement. When you walk in you have 6 areas with their displays and different setups, such as dining room, outdoor area, living room, bed room and a few variations.

The setup was very nice but I’m not one who really gets impressed by just some pieces of equipment wired up nicely, what I like is the thought process that was put into designing the way they are setup and the products they choose for indoor or outdoor use. And what I liked the most is the knowledge and understanding of the people, it isn’t your run of the mill electronics store, these guys knew about sound resonance, sound deadening techniques for home theater rooms, the right equipment for the right needs and surprisingly for the shine and show their prices are reasonable. They even had some nice Optima projectors which had amazing blacks and I enjoyed watching Live Free or Die Hard. They had a very interesting home automation system which integrates with your iPod or iPhone which the they were using, not just the panels on the wall.

The home theater rooms were fantastic, they had three rooms, one was very nice with the sound and visuals, one was amazing and the third room just completely blew me away with the 9.2 setup meaning ( 9 Speakers & 2 Sub-Woofers which shook the room like an earthquake). I loved that they were showing off the highest end home theater with the Matrix. There were a few tacky things that I didn’t like but I wasn’t there for the taste in furniture, they have an amazing store and I hope it is successful and everyone should check it out to at least see some of those theater rooms with the ridiculously comfortable seats, I didn’t want to get up but there were other people who wanted to see so I had to get out of the room after forgetting that I wasn’t there to watch the whole movie.

Bluetooth in Cars

Most care have this feature in them these days, you can connect your phone through the bluetooth system in the car. When you are on the other end of the phone it feels like there is a lot of space between you and them when they are using the bluetooth system of a car, headsets are pretty good these days, but some cars do have it right. Personally I don’t like using bluetooth systems which are integrated into the cars for one main fact, I listen to music at a high volume. If thats the case then you will hate every time someone calls, because the sound system is going to ring at a very HIGH volume, which might disorient some people, and you will be annoyed. I have tried it a few times, and I just decided never to use it, its really annoying when the phone rings in the middle of a good song.

VOIX MPX 2.1

2.1 speakers with iPod dock from VOIX, they do look like twigs but they can fit anywhere and produce good sound. Each speaker pumps out 72 watts each, there is an active speaker and a passive speaker, on the active speaker you can directly plug the iPod into it, any iPod including the iPhone. You can either set it up to be directly plug the TV into or using an a/v receiver configuring it from there.

Klipsch Outdoor Speaker AWR-650

The AWR-650-SM is a true two-way design that employs a 6.5-inch dual voice coil polymer woofer and dual ¾-inch polymer dome tweeters.

This is one the nicest outdoor speakers I have seen yet. I do like some of the inconspicious speakers such the ones from Bose, but sometimes you want something that can pack more of a punch. The Klipsch AWR-650 speakers are made from durable material allowing to stay outside all season long, I’m not sure about the heat but it seems it can work well outside.

This speaker can run as a single speakers with Stereo output or with multiple speakers with Mono output to run them all together. I really would like to hear how good they are, most probably my neighbor wouldn’t appreciate me having these speakers.

Price: $300
