HAILO – The Experience

HAILO3

For the last couple of years there were different applications that came out for Black Cabs, and finding a cab or quick transprotation is London is always a gamble. There have been times where I ended up walking over an hour heading home instead of finding a cab in the rain or on a Friday night. Other Apps came out but they were hit or miss, and always searching for vehicles which drove me nuts.

Hailo is different then the pack, it is extremely easy to use and secure with cash or credit payment option when requesting the blackcab, so even if you don’t have your wallet or cash on you, you can just charge it to your card which is registered to your Hailo account. The application is both on Android and iOS so anyone could use it.

HAILO1

The application opens up to your location and you can search for black cabs right away, when it finds a few usually there are anywhere from 3 to 10, you click yes and the closest one or the one that is free first will confirm. They will give you an update on the amount of time, anywhere between 4 minutes up to 20 minutes and usually they are perfectly on time and you can track their progress on your Hailo App.

The best part is that the Cabbie is there to pick you up and can only start the meter with you in it. Once the ride is done you pay the normal fare with a minimum fare starting at 10 & 15 GBP depending on the time of day. Overall it is a very simple experience even when they pick you up from a busy location like a restaurant or the movie theater, they have your name and your confirmation number when they come to pick you up. Each cab has a Hailo sticker on it to make it easy to identify.

HAILO4

The experience is very simple, easy and straight forward, and once the cab ride is done you rate your cab driver. And I have given mine 5 stars because they pick me up on time and get me where I need to go making it for a pleasent and easy experience. I seriously love this application, no more major issues and has worked perfectly every time I use it, even when I don’t find a cab I try it again and it works perfectly.

Currently its Running in:

  • London
  • Dublin
  • Toronto
  • Chicago
  • Boston

Opening Soon In:

  • New York
  • Tokyo
  • Washington DC
  • Cork
  • Madrid
  • Barcelona

There are some cities like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Tokyo, Singapore, and London which I would happily get in the cab because they are genuinely great cabs which are comfortable, but Cabs in the US are usually pretty bad, the crown victorias or not maintained vehicles, when I use vehicles in the US I use the Uber App for private driver who usually have decent vehicles like an Escalade or a vehicle like that when in New York or LA.

Sixt Car Rental Dubai

Traveling to Dubai for the day is one of those fun things that we do every once in a while, and this time we rented a C-Class Mercedes from Sixt Rent-A-Car so that we can drive where we want to and I can get a bit more familiar with driving in Dubai. One of the hardest things is driving the speed limit because I don’t know what are the thresholds for the speed cameras in Dubai, in Kuwait its around 15 kph above the speed limit, so I kept braking every kilometer and I wasn’t sure what some of the cameras might look like since they install new kinds every day. The experience with Sixt was a bit annoying even though we got a brand new very clean car, the whole process was annoying.

  • When we booked and spoke to them we discussed all the points with them so everything was clear.
  • They mentioned we would pick up the car right away from Terminal 3 with no delay, turns out they didn’t have a station in that Terminal only in Terminal 1 so we had to wait 30 mins to get the car in the heat.
  • We faxed them all our documents prior to arrival they said they would need nothing else, then they asked for a copy of my credit card and they needed to charge it over the phone, just as we got the car so that was another delay.
  • After we got the car and sorted everything out the guy wanted us to drop him close to Terminal 1, which I thought wasn’t bad but it was unprofessional
  • The last part they told us we could drop the car off at Terminal 3, that was before we went to Dubai. When we were in Dubai they told us that we have to drop the Car in Terminal 1 and then get dropped off in Terminal 3 which was a major inconvenience and a huge waste of time.

The car was perfectly fine but the whole process was ridiculous and unprofessional, not something that I would expect from a professional rental company in Dubai. I have rented from these personal companies in Dubai before, they would get the car ready for you at the airport door, you sign off and take the car right away, this could be for any type of car, a regular Landcruiser or an German four door. I don’t think I will be using Sixt in Dubai again.

Reiter Lamborghini LP600+

There is something very menacing about this machine and I like it, the lines of the LP560 look very nice with a setup such as this. The LP560 is an already capable vehicle but the Reiter version is stripped down to the core producing more then 600 horsepower and completely track ready. And Reiter have won a lot of races in their time with Lamborghinis so they know how to setup this car, roll cage, racing seat, and the right components to keep you glued to the seat and flying on the track.

NegativEffect On SpeedHunters

Our friend Abdulla at NegativEffect has just been featured in an amazing online site, SpeedHunters. Recenlty at the Bahrain International Circuit the guys went for a track guy and came across something they weren’t expecting. They saw the Toyota Ex-F1 Team testing Formula 1 Tires for Pirelli which was an amazing experience since they were telling them what they do, and explaining them the details of the car. Toyota pulled out of F1 but they are using their F1 team for consultancy services, and this one was contracted out to Pirelli. Abdulla took amazing pictures that you can find on his blog and turns out that he wasn’t the only one that thought his photographs were amazing, SpeedHunters posted about it as well and you can see the link below. I keep nagging him for more photographs because he does an amazing job.

Lamborghini Estoque

Most supercar companies that have been around for a while try to diversify the amount and types of cars they have. Adding a four door has to happen for them, I think it would be fantastic and this car looks amazing. I don’t they should make an SUV but a four door Lamborghini has to happen if it looks like this.

Rumors are always afloat about this car, but the latest one has got people talking. Lamborghini “will import its super luxury four-door sedan, Lamborghini Estoque to China for local production in 2012 with a price tag of around 4 million yuan ($589,000).” The target will be the Aston Martin Rapide, but I think the Rapide can’t compete with the Esqotue on looks or quality. The interior of the car reminds of the Air Force F117A Stealth Fighter from the Gulf War, it looks like a machine with stealth fighting capabilities. This will add a much needed 3rd car to the brand, and I’m hoping that it comes out sooner then later as its an amazing looking machine.

Knight XV

Now this is an interesting machine, you would think with the economy and gas prices as it is that they would make a higher end hybrid, but not for Conquest Vehicles. They have made a monster of an SUV, dutefully named KNIGHT XV, and their catch phrase is “Are you ready to be Knighted?”

At $295’000 only 100 of these are made a year, with a V10 heart pumping 400 bhp and 500 torque. And all I want to do is drive this monster into a wall and see what KITT has to say.

Features:

  • Wilton Wool carpeting
  • Andrew Muirhead leather
  • 6-way seating
  • Tandem sunroof glass with privacy shades S
  • ide-mounted laptop stations
  • LED cabin lighting
  • Alpine DVD navigation and Bluetooth setup, TVs
  • Night vision and rear op camera system
  • PlayStation 3
