Halo Reach – MultiPlayer Galore

Reach takes place in a futuristic science fiction setting during the year 2552, days before the events of the 2001 video game Halo: Combat Evolved. Humans, under the auspices of the United Nations Space Command (UNSC), have been waging a long war against a collective of alien races known as the Covenant. By the events of Reach, almost all of humanity’s interstellar colonies have fallen. Reach itself is an Earthlike colony that serves as the UNSC’s main military hub. In addition to the military presence, the colony is home to 500 million civilians.

The game follows the actions of Noble Team, a UNSC special operations unit composed of elite supersoldiers known as Spartans. Players assume the role of an unnamed new addition to the team, identified by the call sign Noble 6. Noble Team’s leader is Carter-259, a no-nonsense soldier. His second-in-command, Kat-320, has a bionic arm; together Carter and Kat are the only two remaining original members of Noble Team. The other members include heavy weapons specialist Jorge-052, Emile-239, and marksman Jun-226.

As a loyal Halo fan I think I just keep wait for each iteration of this game and how they are going to top it, for a while Halo 3 was going to be the last release as they were working on it but luckily they felt that there was still more to do. Then there was ODST which was fantastic but still not enough, it didn’t satisfy my hunger for this game, we finished it within hours and now Halo Reach has come to pass. From what I have read and seen I have been told that they have gone back to the drawing board and reworked the whole graphics and AI engine, meaning the bad guys are meaner and the explosions are bigger. The best part is always the story, this time about how the Spartans came to be and somewhat the story of Masterchief, but even with one player they knew to concentrate on the multiplayer game which is what we keep playing again and again. Just by looking at the trailer below it looks to be a lot more detailed, meaner, tougher, and a lot more fun. You can really customize the your Spartan this time around and it seems the weapons are more potent then they were before. I can’t wait to get my hands on this game, I will dedicate my time to finish it and annihilate those in multiplayer.

Halo ODST – Live Trailer

I have preordered this game a long time back, but I don’t think I’m getting the special features because I’m ordering it through Amazon. But check out the live trailer they did for Halo ODST it gives you a real feel to the game, I really do hope they come out with the movie soon. The funny part are the “Red vs. Blue” Episodes about how the normal Halo players are afraid of the ODST players. I think we might have a chance with ODST but still get are asses handed to us.

PS3 Slim – Some Game Time

Unboxing the PS3 was a simple process, but wiring it up and powering it up was going to be a headache so I decided to do that at a later point. So I went to Ace Hardware to pick up a voltage regulator to handle 2x110V connections and 2x220V connections smoothly since I also had the XBox 360 running on 110V. I wired up the PS3 Slim to the Home Theater A/V (Onkyo 875) using the HDMI cable of the Onkyo DVD player since it didn’t come with one as a temporary solution, then I connected to the network and switched on the power regulator to switch on the PS3. While I was there I sorted out the network cable connections and power cable connections, my cable management skills are close to zero, I like seeing clean jobs but I just can’t seem to do clean wiring myself but overall it wasn’t too bad.

Switched it on and I started roaming about the Operating System not sure where to go, but just poking around. I wanted to create user profile and thought to make PSN user profile so I can use it for online game but it seems that I had to update to the 3.0 software which took me over 10 minutes to find where to update it. Sony’s way of doing things seems interesting and I remember it from the PSP but this time around its alot more options and menus. After updating the system, creating my user profile, I opened up Kill Zone 2 and decided to play the famous FPS game of the PS3. I was having fun, and I have to say the graphics are amazing, loaded up the game and went to shooting and I am enjoying it but its far from Halo.

I bought a couple of other games for the PS3 and XBox 360 while I was there:

  • Kill Zone 2 – PS3
  • Batman – Arkham Asylum – PS3
  • Need for Speed – Under Cover – PS3
  • Section 8 – XBox 360
  • Red Faction – Guerrilla – XBox 360

PS3 Slim – Has Arrived

The order was placed the day of the announcement of the PS3 slim with one day delivery from Amazon, luckily it was delivered a few days earlier then the suggested September 1st release date, so I received on September 1st. The packaging was very compact and simple, I didn’t expect it to be this small in comparison the normal PS3. Now I have the PS3 even though all my games are in XBox I do have a few games in mind that I want to play with PS3, so I will pick and choose from that selection when I have a chance to head over to rehab, I will buy two games which are easy to play and not too involving so I won’t get too caught up with it.

Now I just have to get a suitable HDMI cable and plug it in to try it out, I haven’t really had the chance yet to play around with it but I’m hoping for sometime over the week to check it out, and I will update it to the latest software edition to get used to that from the start.

Guitar Hero 5, Ten Playboy Playmates And Hugh Hefner

I think Guitar Hero has transcended most games and advanced into a whole other realm, I know of people meeting up to play the game, practicing as if they are real bands, and all these competitions. We even played it for some time, its addictive as hell and there so many songs you can play, and suddenly you just have them memorized and we throw the people who aren’t up to par and there was a time I even outted. But this ad says it all, now even all the playmates are in on it and as usual Hugh is having all the fun.

Rehab Visit

I have been wanting to go to Rehab for some time now, but going to Hawally at night just isn’t appealing. So I had a chance to go early saturday morning and so I went, I want to go in and pick up a few games and head out. Usually I just walk to the Kuwaiti Center knowing which games I had in mind, then I spotted the Gamespot shop, I never knew that Gamespot had a retail store in Kuwait, I think they would be interested to know. I picked up a few games that I wanted to get for some time now, one of them is HAWX, I just can’t resist a good fighter pilot game, and then there is Red Faction which is a must.

Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X
Red Faction: Guerrilla
Prototype
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Games & More

Currently Playing

  • Gears of War 2 – FPS (Can’t get enough of Horde Mode)
  • Halo 3 – FPS (Multiplayer Rules!)
  • Street Fighter IV – Arcade (I’m getting destroyed in this game, its a hell of a lot of fun)
  • C&C Red Alert – RTS (Addictive and Fun PC Game)
  • Halo Wars – Just Started

Planning on Purchasing

  • Dawn of War II (PC)
  • Star Craft II (PC)
  • Diablo III (PC)

I am addicted to Real Time Strategy games, I love building up the army and sending them in. I’m still getting the hang of Halo Wars since its the first RTS I play on a console, usually I only buy RTS games for PC like C&C Red Alert 3. I know that the best two coming out are Star Craft II and Diablo III, I’m getting anxious for those games. I won’t be sleeping much with those two games out, even with C&C Red Alert 3 I spend at least two to three hours per mission, and that isn’t even in multiplayer mode.

Bumming

There just isn’t enough time in the day to do all that you want to do. I always have that feeling that I want to watch anime, go out, play videos or something that doesn’t involve my brain. I know of a few people who have quit jobs or taken long vacations just to bum at home for the longest time playing video games and watching movies, not just young guys but married men.

I keep looking at my XBox 360 in a strange way, thinking that there is so much to enjoy from it, but if I even switch it on, I won’t play for 30 to 40 minutes and get up, I will probably be there for at least 2 – 3 hours until I finish all the stages that I want. I haven’t had a chance to play for a while now, at least 3 months since work has gotten more hectic.

Then there is the PSP, I think the PSP is an excellent product and they have a lot of games. I remember getting the extended battery for it, and even now the last time I switched it on was at least 1 year and 6 months ago.

I think the perfect time off would be two to three months, bumming doing nothing but catching up with all forms of entertainment. Probably do some traveling to go to a few tracks here and there to ride my bikes.
