Review: Outlaw Star

Plot Summary:
Gene Starwind and his partner Jim Hawking run a small business on the backwater planet of Centinel 3. But all that changes the day that Hilda hires them for a bodyguard job. Now, thrust into a mystery they don’t fully understand, they’re on the run from the cops, the pirates, an angry alien, and a mysterious assassin. But they’ve got one thing going in their favor – they have the galaxy’s most advanced ship, the Outlaw Star.

Gene Starwind dreams of life as an Outlaw, and fate smiles on him as he seems to suddenly wind up with a great job. But as things go awry, and he finds himself the new owner of the fastest, most technologically advanced space ship in the galaxy. Unfortunately, it’s stolen and the owners want it back… Along with his partner Jim and the lovely Melfina, Gene must fight his way across the galaxy battling pirates, aliens, and assassins as he attempts to discover the secrets of the Outlaw Star.

For those who love anime Outlaw Star is not to be missed. I have been watching anime for over a decade now, and this anime made a mark on the US by being one of the first to be shown on the Toonami block on Cartoon Network. Its the story about Gene Starwing, and his partner Jim Hawking who are regular bounty hunters. One time they take a mission and suddenly they are being chased by every space police, and pirate in space. Everyone wants this female android named Melfina, and his ship the XGP. Its a space and mecha type anime with an amazing plot line. I really loved watching this anime, and watching this insane group getting in and out of crazy situations, and staying together as a rag tag family of misfits. While they are trying to figure out what the Galatic Leyline is they are bouncing around space in the XGP or Outlaw Star as they called it. The characters are extremely well developed, and a very interesting plot line which shouldnt be missed. The action is fantastic and the music fits the bill. This is one anime that has been dubbed well, and I loved watching it.

A guy who is just trying to enjoy life!

  1. The story seems good but the animation(drawings) is kinda iffy to me. Nice find ;p

  2. Fallen: its just the picture, its the best I could find since its from 1998. But I really recommend it, the animation is amazing! I remember loving it! And I couldnt get enough of it, until I got the whole damn story!

  3. asil

You gave a pretty good description of what the anime was like. I could not have done a better job myself if I had wached the anime.

  4. asil: Happy it explained it to you! One great anime!

  5. Razor2000

I have always loved this series ever since I saw it on Toonami in 2000. It came on after Tenchi Muyo.

This series has something that most popular series don’t have any longer. A full, solid story put into motion and completed in one season (26 epps.) This has a beautifully written story with characters that seem to live on long after the series ends. (try and name some of the DB, DBZ, DBGT characters without pictures or taking 10 min.)

I give it a 5 out of 5 for originality, story line, animation (one of the last fully hand made series,) and character design.

  6. i agree it was 1 of the best in that year i love it and cowboy bepbob they need to bring them back and put it on adultswim all the good anime

  7. Anime Games

I love out law star it’s kinda similar to cowboy bebop and some sexiness in it.
