Review: Afro Samurai

Afro Samurai is a mini-series based on a Takashi Okazaki manga. The series takes place in a unique world that is part ancient Japan and part futuristic science fiction fantasy. Samuel L. Jackson stars as “Afro” the solitary samurai on a quest to avenge the wrongful death of his father. Afro sheds no tears and knows no love.

This is an anime I was looking forward to since it mixes things up a bit, but it was even better then I expected. This anime is a mix of Ninja Scroll and Cowboy Bebop with the bloody fights, good music, great animation, and fantastic plot line. The anime is simple about a man who is avenging his father, and everything in his life has led him to revenge, this is all taking place in the futuristic feudal Japan ere. I just couldn’t get enough of it, and I was happy I had all five episodes on one disc. You have to see all of it, the animation is amazing and the plot is simple enough to follow but with all the intricacies tied in. A must see anime for any anime fan.

A guy who is just trying to enjoy life!

  1. That looks very cool. Samuel L. Jackson?! LOL! That’s funny and actually impressive at the same time!

  2. They’ve recently licensed the title to a game developer too. No mention of which system though.

  3. My brother has been trying to get me to watch it, for awhile now but the fact that Samuel L. Jackson is in it kinda’ puts me off. Since you gave it a good review, I’ll be sure to check it out.

  4. N: I thought it would be funny, but I was very impressed it had the humor but very serious feel to it!

3baid: interesting, would be nice to check it out!

DnG: You would like it for sure!

  5. I watched the first episode and SLJ put me off, he ruins the buildup; the whole “have a stereotypical nigga for comic relief” thing sucks. A lot.

  6. mooodi: The animation is amazing, but the stereotypical stuff is kept to minimum!
