Kuwait Traffic

Somebody explain what the hell happened on Monday evening. From 5 pm onwards the police started blocking every road around Bayan Palace and every highway that could possible lead to it. In the diagram above anything in Dark Grey was empty highways because the police blocking off all exits, and anything in Red is EXTREME traffic due to the police blocking of those roads in Dark Grey.

There was no notification what so ever of this traffic or that the police were going to be blocking off roads. I read the newspapers and there was no mention of this, there is a meeting in Bayan Palace with people coming from out of state. This caused havoc on the roads of Kuwait for several hours, I hated being outside due to this hellish traffic. The usually 20 minute trip took me an hour and 10 minutes, and a 15 minute trip took one hour in the car. I went nuts sitting in a car going 10 kph, and knowing the traffic is being cause by the idiots who didn’t plan this out. They should have a fleet of helicopters to transport these dignitaries instead of causing over 7 hours worth of traffic without any warning.

A guy who is just trying to enjoy life!

  1. Last night was a mess! The reason for the closures was the arrival of the delegates for the 4th World Islamic Economic Forum. As for the traffic around or heading towards South Surra was due to the opening of the election HQs for Talal Al-Ghanim and National Democratic Alliance!

That’s why we need fresh minds like yours to apply logistics to such events ;)

I wished for a helicopter myself

  3. nudorp

Certainly a spliffy way to show off state power and authority. Got stuck in the lock down for 3 funkin hours. Germany’s Autobahn display boards would come in handy :)

  4. It took me 20 minutes to get from The Fair Grounds back home.

  5. Its cuz of the Islamic conference thingy.

  6. I was stuck on Damascus street for 30 mins to go to the opening of the third district – National Democratic Alliance. I was looking for any exit to go back home! Same thing happened on our way back but it even took us longer to get out of there it was ridiculous that they did not even bother to announce it!

  7. I took my dogs to the vet and usually it takes me 3 minutes from there to home bas they blocked the bridge where I take as a shortcut and I was screaming at the police officer to let me go through cuz the dogs get car sick easily he said no and it took me 45 minutes to get back home with a couple of nauseous dogs :)

I was stuck for two hours!!! The stupid police blocked all the roads and directed all cars to the airport!!! Instead of reaching home in 10 minutes, it took me 2 hours!! I was really pissed off!

They should have all this stuff wayyyyyy down south like at the Kempinski. Maybe some air-conditioned super-tents (Dubai-style) in the cleaner parts of the desert on the way to Salmi or something?

Doing it in central areas is basically ridiculous.

  11. good thing i didn’t need to take a highway to get home but it sure was crazy cause i passed by the palace and it looked like a murder scene there were so many police cars

  12. Stallion: It was ridiculous!

    Jewaira: Helicopter, simple as that!

nudorp: Very handy if they were giving out information!

    nibaq: Thats just nuts!

Mark: Nobody notified the general public of the road shutdown!

    Pink Moon: interesting!

    Ansam: That was the problem!

LaLa: damn, that is just stupid!

Maryam: Same here, that is what really screw us up!

Moocherx: I don’t think they would ever do that!

Laialy: A ton of police cars! too many!
