Review: The Sorcerers Apprentice

Master sorcerer Balthazar Blake recruits a seemingly everyday guy in his mission to defend New York City from his arch-nemesis, Maxim Horvath.

Nicholas Cage as one of Merlin’s Apprentices and Jay Baruchel as the dorky New Yorker who turns out to have a magic in his blood. The movie is an action packed fun movie from Disney, with lots of magic and entertainment. I’m not the biggest fan of Nicholas Cage but he sometimes does a good job, with this movie its pretty fun but the bad guys aren’t developed enough so that you really hate them, and Jay plays the dorky character perfectly. It’s great when you have a character to direct your hatred towards but Maxim Horvath was more on the entertaining side, the magic was fun but not the greatest movie but I left the movie entertained.

The Last of Harry Potter

Now they have officially wrapped up the production of all the Harry Potter movies, I can’t believe its been so long. I refused to read all the books of Harry Potter because I knew it would ruin the movies for me, and I have loved every movie released, I remember even delaying a trip to watch the release Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in 2005. I will probably be doing a marathon before the next release of Harry Potter. The first movie was released in 2000 and the last one is to be released in 2011, a full decade of amazing Harry Potter movies and I just can’t get enough of it. I love a lot of the characters in the movies, and all of them have been well done. At least we have two more movies to look forward to, I hope they end it on a high note, I don’t know what to expect but I know its going to be great.

Release Dates:

  • Nov. 19, 2010 – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
  • July 15, 2011 – Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows Part 2

Anime 01/10

The last few months I have been neglecting my anime stash but as of a few weeks ago I have started it back up and I didn’t know what I was missing. Now that I am back into them I barely have enough time to watch them, I want to watch them all one shot. I just have to sort out all the downloads since I haven’t downloaded since August of 2009 so now I have to address all that I have missed.

Review: Kaze No Stigma

Plot Summary:
Ayano is the heir to the house of Kannagi, a house with ties to the spirit of fire, whose members are all fire users. All except for her cousin, Kazuma. After he was defeated by Ayano, his father banished him from the house in disgrace. Kazuma ran off and changed his surname to Yagami. He formed a contract with the spirit of wind and becomes a powerful wind user. Four years later, he returned.Four years ago, Kazuma Kannagi was defeated by his cousin Ayano Kannagi for the right to be the successor of Enraiha, a sword passed down in the Kannagi family. His defeat, along with his lack of talent for En-Jutsu, the fire arts, the Kannagis’ specialty, resulted in his banishment from the family. Now, Kazuma returns as Kazuma Yagami, a skilled master of Fū-Jutsu, the wind arts.

I had high expectations for this anime, it just felt like the right combination of a story with magic and had ways to go in front of it. I always like these unpredictable characters, and Ayano was that character, and Kazuma had that hidden strength that I wanted to see but alas it wasn’t I got. The story line was a little shallow when I expected more and it wasn’t the development I was hoping for, a fun anime to watch and easy but there are a lot better anime’s out there.

Review: Ptolemy’s Gate – Jonathan Stroud

A wild imagination is needed for this book, it draws all the images of history together tying it together to Nathanial’s present predicament. The third book of Bartimaeus Trilogy, it is amazing climax to the end of the trilogy. Each book of this trilogy has amazing characters, a colorful and historical storyline, pulling together so many interesting magical characters throughout history and giving you a different view of them and their characters. The last of the trilogy keeps the adventure and mystery going while answering so many questions that have developed since starting this trilogy years ago. It took me a long time to finish this trilogy, I think its because I didn’t want to finish it since I enjoyed it so much. I wouldn’t want to ruin the book or the trilogy for anyone, but if you like fantasy then you will love this book, the ending left me wanting more but still satisfied. Its difficult to find books as good as these.
