Anime List 07/13

It’s been 6 months since I have updated this list and I have fallen back majorly on my anime intake. I just got caught up with a lot of work and then there were so many shows to follow up on that I barely watched any anime, but now I am fully immersed in it and I now know what I was missing. There are some great shows and I am catching up on them right away. Its like I’m going full throttle into anime again watching 10 episodes at a time, when I have 5 minutes I watch anime, I watch it whenever I am doing something and I can read the subtitles at the same time, I love this stuff.

What I Am Watching:

  • Attack On Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) – Very intense Anime, it really pulls you in
  • Bleach – Catching Up And Loving it, from 198 to 246 in a few days, Loving it!
  • Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet – A Very Cool Mecha Anime
  • Sword Art Online – Finishing Up A Great Story
  • Valvrave the Liberator – Action Packed Mecha – Enjoying the Fight Scenes

Review: Soul Eater

Plot Summary:
Set in the Shinigami technical school for weapon meisters, the series revolves around 3 groups of each a weapon meister and a human weapon. Trying to make the latter a “Death Scythe” and thus fit for use by the Shinigami, they must collect the souls of 99 evil humans and 1 witch.
Soul Eater is an anime that centers around meisters and their weapons and their mission to collect 99 evil souls and 1 witch soul. Upon doing that the meister’s weapons will become a Deathscythe, which is the highest title for a weapon. Maka, Soul Eater, Black Star, Tsubaki, Death the Kid, and Patty and Liz Thompson are the characters Soul Eater revolves around. Besides taking the time to gather souls these students of Shibusen defend Death City from some of the most powerful of creatures while still attending school and trying to become stronger.

The Shinagami are an ongoing theme in Japanese Anime and stories, they are specially tasked people who make sure that spirits go to the heaven and to defeat demons. In this case Maka and the other Meisters attend Shibbusen to train and become more powerful to defeat these monsters, it is run by the Shinigami who is one cooky character. The action picks up from the start, the weapons of the Meisters are humans as well, and every Mesiter is paired with a specific Weapon based on their characteristics. In this case Maka has Soul Eater, Black Star has Tsubaki, and Death Kid has the Thompson Sisters. The combination of these characters with a lot of comedy thrown in, they face some adverse characters while in development with alot worse in store. This is one of the longer animes going for about 50 episodes but once its don’t your just not happy its done, you keep wanting more, the comedy and entertainment of the characters with the great story line keeps you wanting more.

Review: Bleach Movie 2 – Diamond Dust Rebellion

Plot Summary: A valuable artifact known as “King’s Seal” is stolen by a mysterious group of people during transport in Soul Society. Hitsugaya Toushiro, the 10th division captain of Gotei 13, who is assigned to transport the seal fights the leader of the group and shortly after goes missing. After the incident, Seireitei declares Hitsugaya a traitor and orders the capture and execution of Hitsugaya. Kurosaki Ichigo refuses to believe this, and along with Matsumoto Rangiku, Kuchiki Rukia and Abarai Renji swear to uncover the real mastermind of the stolen seal, find Hitsugaya and clear his name. Meanwhile, a rogue Hitsugaya searches for the perpetrators and uncovers a dark secret regarding a long dead shinigami.

I have this appreciation for Bleach and tend to like Ichigo a lot, I was a bit disappointed in the first movie but this time around they did a great job. Going into the story its as if you have been watching the anime the whole time, it wasn’t a rewind, they all have the powers that they have developed and their relationships. You jump right into the meat of the story trying to figure out whats going on and it just keeps getting better and better. The best part is the full participation of a lot of characters, just seeing use their power in that way is great.
