Wheel Clamp

This is just ridiculous, I got a clamp on my tire when I stepped out of the car for exactly 3 mins, I walked in to get measurements for a dishdasha and walked back and saw the cop running away. He was literally running away to his car, even when I called out to him he looked back and jumped in the Ford Excursion and took off. I was in the city by a street called Salhiya Street which is close to where the old Samsung store is now called Centro, there is also a Casio store there, just opposite the tall communications tower (Burj Al Tahreer). When I was looking for parking I circled the area twice looking for parking with nothing available, so instead of blocking traffic I decided to park on the sidewalk thinking that I wouldn’t be too long and I was out quick to see that scene.

I could understand the fine, and I will pay it as I was parked illegally but so was 30 cars behind me which turned the road into a one lane road instead of two and lanes and some parking. Now why do they have to inconvenience people to get the clamp off, and the correct process to get it done is very annoying. You have to wait for Ministery of Interior office to go pay the bill their which is only open in the morning, then you have to wait for the guy to unlock the clamp which can take anywhere between 2 hours to the next day which you will not know. I called a few people and got someone to help me out and told me to sit tight, I had the car on and I was listening to music and bbming people. I was honestly not in a bad mood but it was a waste of time. He called back and said a police car will be back in 10 mins, he even knew the details of my car from what they were told. Now I have been through the legal process of the clamp, and it isn’t a deterrent from parking illegally. In the states I made the the mistake of parking in a handicap spot when I first move there and cop came over and gave me a $360 ticket and I never parked in a handicap spot ever again, I even when to the judge to make the payment over installments which they were more then happy to do. In this case it was a 5KD fine and the police car came after 65 minutes while I had the car on and sitting inside having a conversation with a friend on the phone. And I continued on my way and thanked him for opening even though it was the guy who ran off earlier. I was fine but it looked like he was walking the walk of shame for some reason, maybe because he was called back to unlock it. I’m lucky who called a friend but what about people who can resolve this quickly, give a simple quicker process but for a higher fee and people will pay. I don’t blame the police but the law that does not make any sense instead of motivating people to go about it the right way and the other matter is the nonexistence of parking in the city but thats another issue.

Side By Side

I was always curious about how exactly do the speed cameras decide which car is speeding when they are side by side and one is going a lot faster, so it seems I will be getting my answer soon. One woman driving Chevy Tahoe on Fahaheel Expressway (30), she was driving really aggressively when there were a lot of cars on the road, she would flash and honk, and what surprised me is that she is muhajabah, and she had kids in the car, I would think she would be more composed instead of driving like a maniac. I was on my way to Wafra for lunch, going at about 120 kmh since there were cars in front of me and around, enjoying some new playlists that I put together and a few oldies as well. After a while there was a stretch of open road on my right, and that lady tried several times to nagivate from the other lanes to get ahead but failed, so when she saw the open lanes she hit the gas and took off, I could see her coming up quick in the middle lane and no cars in front of her. I saw the speed camera up front and slow down a bit to signal her but she was a woman on a mission. The moment she passed me was the moment we were both passed the speeding camera and it flashed, and she continued to fly as if nothing happened. Now I will find out how accurate these cameras are if I get the ticket, then I am pretty much screwed because you can’t do anything about it in Kuwait and I think I have some points racked up meaning that I would lose my license for a while which is a strange thing in Kuwait, but time will tell. Knowing the MOI it will take at least 4 to 6 months before it shows in the system and if it doesn’t then I’m in the clear and those cameras work right, and if I do get a ticket then I’m taking a shot gun to those cameras and giving them a few more holes to see better.

Jazeera Airways is Horrible

I haven’t flown Jazeera airways for a while now, since I was either between Wataniya Airways or Emirates Airlines, where ever I needed to go those two airlines served my needs. This time around I need to go to Dubai and back the next day, but the timings were better with Jazeera and half the price of Emirates so I went with Jazeera. My flight was at 6:40 pm, next morning I found out we had an important meeting that just came up and I had to attend so I asked if I can cancel or delay my flight, they told me know even though it was around 10 am and at least 8 hours before the flight and I just booked it the night before. They told me that its a total refund and I can’t pay any fee to change it, I spoke to the next person who said that I can change it if I pay a fee of 120 KD and my ticket was only 156 KD, so I’m basically paying for the ticket twice. I called back later to argue and they only reduced it down to 85 KD even after losing my voice from arguing so much, and this is after I bought a full price Jazeera Plus ticket which is supposed to be the more flexible one but turns out they changed their policy and made it as difficult as possible. Another note, looks like you have to pay to choose your seat on the booking menu, if you are Jazeera Plus you pay an extra 4 KD to choose your seat and if you are Economy you have to pay 1 KD. Looks like they have really gone down the drain since they opened and I haven’t flown on them since last year and I don’t think I would fly on them if I had a choice.

Travel Pricing

I was recently checking for flights to San Francisco in December, just to see what pricing has been like. Some prices were within the normal range and some were insane. I was checking Business Class seats for the times in mind on Emirates Airlines, British Airways, and Lufthansa.

Business Class:

  • Emirates: 2612 KWD (New Direct Flight from Dubai to San Francisco)
  • British Airways: 2975 KWD
  • Lufthansa: 1862 KWD
The price of Emirates is on their new direct San Francisco flight is justifiable, so I can understand the high price. Lufthansa is same price as usual, but the British Airways price is nothing short of insane. I have noticed their pricing has been jumping over the past two years. Who can justify a 1000 KWD difference between Lufthansa and British Airways when the route is identical. It seems over the past year British Airways have lost 35% of their business in Kuwait due to their high pricing, and people are changing over to Lufthansa, KLM, Itihad, Emirates, and a few others for their long haul flights.
