How Kuwaiti TV Shows Portray Kuwaitis?

Kuwait used to be the center of the Middle East for Music and Television, but it seems we have fallen far from that pedestal. Kuwait used to be ahead of all the countries in the Middle East when it came to all forms of media but over the last decade in a half Saudi Arabia, Emirates, and Qatar have far surpassed us in media, production, and broadcasting. There is still some what of a TV industry in Kuwait and the talent is even being bought by other countries in the region. I for one don’t have much time to watch TV during Ramadan, working late until an hour before futoor so always cutting it close, and then going from dewaneya to dewaneya in Ramadan with the family at night leaves you very little time to watch all these shows. Previously I haven’t seen any Kuwaiti show because they are rather depressing, I recently just saw a few shows and I was very much disturbed, no wonder there is a lot of bad press about Kuwaiti TV shows.

The Simple Breakdowns:

  • Girls – They are over dramatic, depression across the board, painted faces making them look like clowns
  • Boys – Shallow drug addicted kids who care about nothing except getting the girl or money they want
  • Women – Scheming evil creatures who just want the money, or battered house wives
  • Men – Abusive, Drunk nonstop or weak men who just hit women or steal the wealth of other families any way possible

This is the repeated theme that I have seen in quite a few shows, and I was going mad, these shows were so disturbing they were going to give me a seizure. In any country there is a variety of shows and themes, but in Kuwait this seems to be the recurring themes. We are not like this and this does not portray our society as whole and it isn’t the limitation of our creative talents in Kuwait. The moment I start seeing these shows it reminds of some one scratching their hands on a blackboard. We are not like this at all, and we have a lot to be proud of and a lot of different stories to tell on TV.

Show Cancellations

There is a lot of TV shows which are doing very well and they have ordered some new seasons, but these shows are the ones that have dropped, the ones that couldn’t make it. Some should have another chance and the ones below that are the shows that have had a good run and will be missed. This will affect some TV addicts and I for one will have to adjust the shows I’m watching for next season as there will be some empty slots to fill.

Premature Cancellation:

  • Outsourced – Can’t believe its cancelled, its a fantastic comedy! One Season
  • V – After two seasons and the show just kept getting better! Damn it I wanted this show to go on
  • Shit My Dad Says – Come On! It was funny! One Season
  • The Event – 1 Season! It was getting better!
  • No Ordinary Family – The SciFi familiy that got lost! One Season
  • Caprica – After One Season and we still want more BSG!
  • The Defenders – They were funny! One more season please!
  • Hell Cats – It was pretty good but wasn’t expecting it to survive!
  • Lie To Me – No More episodes! Its done! At least The Mentalist survived!
  • Stargate Universe – Only Two Seasons! Come on it was good! There was to be a Stargate Show!
  • Mad Love – Come on! It just started it and I’m loving the show, how can it be cancelled already!

Coming To An End (A nice run):

  • Entourage – After 8 Seasons! Still haven’t watched it!
  • Greek – After 4 Seasons it did pretty well!
  • Friday Night Lights – After 5 Seasons this show was fantastic! Loved the football drama!
  • Rescue Me – After 7 Seasons this was an intense show! Denis Leary is good!
  • Secret Diary of a Call Girl – Four Seasons now that was an interesting show!
  • Smallville – After 10 Seasons we want be having a Superman anymore! I remembered first watching the show from when it started.

Upcoming Shows of 2011

There are a lot of good shows this up coming season, and some I’m very much looking forward to like V, it seems they have really worked on the story to make it a blockbuster for this season and I hope it keeps going. The new Spartacus seems pretty good, I’m just hoping its as good as the original. This list will be added to the usual shows I’m following, I’m honestly confused as to which episodes I have reached with each show, these days I’m losing track.

  • The Cape – New Show
  • Games Of Thrones – New Show
  • Falling Skies – New Show
  • Spartacus: Gods Of The Arena – Season 2 or New Season which depicts the Prequel
  • Justified – Season 2
  • V – Season 2

Spartacus: Gods of the Arena 2011

Lack of Time Management

When I took a vacation I thought I would get things back in order, get some gaming in and watching some anime. I barely keep up with the shows as well as movies, I’m traveling a lot for work staying late. At the end of the day I’m even too tired to go riding. There are days I just want to stay playing video games all day, when I was int he states I played a lot of Halo Reach and since I came back I haven’t had a chance even though I really want to play the game, it requires dedication and time to play Halo and I don’t want to just play 20 minutes and stop, I usually end up playing for hours. Then there is all the anime that I am missing and I’m going to try catching up with all that I have missed but I don’t know when that is going to happen.

What I Would Do With A Lot Of Free Time:

  • Ride As Much As Humanely Possible!
  • Watch all the anime and tv shows that I’m missing
  • Play all the unplayed XBox 360 & PS3 Games!
  • Go the gym
  • Clean up my room
  • Catch up on the pile of books
  • Reorganize My Network
  • Reorganize all the Cables, Wires and Hardware
  • Reorganize all the folders stored on my Network, I’m getting lost as to where I stored what item

Quick DL List

Recently I’m barely keeping up with all the downloads, too much to see and almost no time to watch what I want. I really want to go on an anime binge, I haven’t had enough anime in a while and when I do watch it I get worked up again, but I know when I do I’m going to jump right in. Then there are all the good tv shows this season, I have been looking forward to the return of Sons of Anarchy.

  • Iron Man 2
  • Killers
  • Superman Batman Apocalypse
  • Robin Hood

  • The Defenders
  • Sons of Anarchy
  • Supernatural
  • Outsourced
  • No Ordinary Family
  • Hawaii Five-0
  • The Event
  • Boardwalk Empire

Anime: (Need to catch up on a lot of anime)

  • Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood
  • Bleach
  • Iron Man – Anime

Review: Justified

Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens is a 19th century-style but modern-day officer, who enforces his brand of justice which puts a target on his back with criminals and puts him at odds with his bosses in the U.S. Marshals Service. As a result of his having eagerly shot a Miami fugitive in a “justified” shooting in his South Florida assignment, he gets reassigned to the district covering his rural Eastern Kentucky mining hometown of Harlan County.

Timothy Olyphant carries a certain type of character, and perfects the bad ass modern cowboy, shooting first and asking questions later. The show revolves around U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens who gets reassinged to his home town filled with hillbillies and are more criminally inclined, and his type of justice works perfectly. A simple story that is easy to understand, and gets complex enough to keep things interesting. Right of the bat its action packed with the special type of humor thrown into the mix, a fun show and I’m looking forward to season 2.
